Covington Rescue Squad Covington Rescue Squad is a 100% volunteer agency located in Covington, VA and founded in 1933

As Volunteers, we respond to emergencies in the city of Covington, VA and bordering areas of Alleghany County. Members of our agency come from all walks of life and are very giving of their time. Whether training or answering the call for help our goal is rendering aid and saving lives.

The Covington Rescue Squad assisted local agencies in a mock disaster vehicle accident at the high school before the homecoming dance as a reminder to students of the dangers of driving.

Very heavy rainfall will impact the area this morning and into early afternoon from the remnants of Hurricane Helene.

We are expecting a potentially significant
flash flooding event to unfold through the morning as soils are already saturated from 5 to 10 inches of rainfall.

An additional 3 to 6 inches, with locally higher amounts in the mountains. Those in flood prone areas should pay particularly close attention to the weather today as streams, creeks, and rivers could rapidly rise!

Strong winds gusts of 40 to 50 mph and tornadoes will also be a threat. Be weather aware today and have multiple ways to receive warnings!
