It’s officially AWS Fiber Week in Covington—and we’ve got the proclamation from Mayor Baggett to prove it!

We’re proud to celebrate Fiber Week and recognize Amazon Web Services (AWS)'s commitment to Newton County and Covington through workforce development, hands-on learning, and connections to career opportunities!

From two-day fiber optic training courses at Georgia Piedmont Technical College and R.L. Cousins Community Center to mini trainings for students at Newton College & Career Academy, this week is helping residents build skills and explore the technology that keeps our world connected.

Fiber optics plays a vital role in how we work, learn, and communicate. Thank you to AWS and our community partners for investing in our local workforce and inspiring the next generation.

Many thanks again to Amazon Web Services, Dycom and Sumitomo Electric Lightwave for their investment in Newton County students and citizens alike.

We are pleased to announce that Target is coming to Covington — and it’s not just any store. At 128,500 sq. ft., it’ll be the largest Target built in metro Atlanta in more than a decade.
Developed by Atlanta-based Fuqua Development, the new store will anchor the growing mixed-use center, Covington Town Center, joining Publix, multiple restaurants, housing, and hotels.

This project, lead by the Foxfield Company, Harry Kitchen and the Industrial Development Authority has been in development for 7 years and is a major milestone in closing in on retail leakage in Newton County. “This is a monumental day through solidifying recruitment and support of our partners” said Serra P. Hall, Executive Director of NCIDA.

Thankful for the great partnership to get this project done! City of Covington, GA - Government, Newton County Ga Government & Newton County Chamber of Commerce!
