Body-camera footage from the Aug. 26 traffic stop involving Coweta Police Officer Rice is now available for public viewing through the City’s NextRequest Open Records portal.

Visit https://cityofcowetaok.nextrequest.com/documents and search “body cam footage” to find all currently available records and footage.

You do not need to submit a separate open records request to view these posted records. Additional related records will be added to the portal’s Documents tab as they are posted.

Thanks to the new equipment the city has purchased over the last two years, our Public Works team completed the large September 1st waterline repair near 141st and 337th without assistance from contractors, saving up to $50,000 and hours of repair time.

Your support and that of our City Council gave the Public Works team the tools they need to do their jobs effectively, and it is making a clear difference.

The Coweta City Council will hold a special meeting at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 8.

The City Council will administer the oath of office to Todd Griebel for Ward 3 and hold interviews with the three finalists for the CM position: Lisa Taylor, Jessica Gough, and Edgar Barroso. We do not anticipate the council taking any action on the hiring of a city manager at this meeting.

Consent forms must be submitted by 2 pm on the Wednesday before a scheduled garage sale to be listed on our weekly garage sale announcement.

The Coweta Fire Department asks citizens to refrain from any burning within Coweta city limits for the next 7 days (starting today, Wednesday, Sept. 2, until Wednesday, Sept. 9) due to dry conditions and no precipitation in the forecast.

While this is not a formal burn ban issued by Wagoner County, Coweta Fire Department will NOT issue private burn permits during this window. Citizens can still apply for commercial burn permits.

This begins the fall testing schedule. Sirens will be tested only on the first Wednesday of each month through February 28, during clear weather.

Now that we're out of storm season, emergency sirens will only be tested once a month through February 28, 2027. Tests will happen on the first Wednesday of each month at noon, and only during good weather to avoid confusion.

Sirens are an outdoor warning system only. During threat of severe weather, we highly recommend installing a weather app on a personal device such as a phone or tablet and paying attention to local news and weather stations.

UPDATE Midnight:

Coweta PWA has completed the water main repair and is slowly re-pressurizing the system. Customers who experienced low water pressure or a temporary loss of water service during this event may choose to follow voluntary boil-water advisory precautions. This is *voluntary and precautionary* and is not a required boil order for the water system. If you did not experience a pressure or service loss, the voluntary precautions do not apply.
Customers who choose to follow voluntary boil advisory precautions should bring water to a full rolling boil for at least one minute before using it for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, preparing baby formula, or washing dishes. Allow water to cool before use. If you choose to boil your water, the precautionary period is 48 hours.

Customers may experience air pockets in their line or discolored water after this event. Running the taps for a few minutes will help clear the lines.

Area where the repairs were made was near 141st Street between S. 337th E. Avenue and S. 353rd E. Avenue.

UPDATE 4 PM: We have located the line break and are excavating the area to determine the necessary repairs. As of now, water has been restored to most of the city. Some residents may experience a drop in water pressure as work is underway. We have isolated the break to the area between S. 337th E. Ave. and S. 353rd E. Ave along E. 141st St. S. Residents in the impacted area may experience temporary loss of service as repairs are completed. We will continue to provide updates and a completion timeline as they become available.

8:15 AM — The City Of Coweta is experiencing low water pressure across town and no water pressure in some areas due to a water main leak. We have discovered the location of the leak, and are beginning the process to isolate and examine the break to determine what repairs are needed. We will update here once we know what repairs will take and have an estimate on the time required.
