Coweta Chamber member Woodlake Family Church Broken Arrow is hosting a community block party to connect with neighbors and support local families and Coweta Public Schools teachers.

There will be something for the entire family! Free nachos will be provided, along with yard games, inflatables, vendor resource booths and live music. Local businesses and community partners will be on site.

The church will give away Amazon gift cards for current Coweta school teachers in attendance to spend on their classroom supplies as a huge "thank you" for all they do!

The Coweta Chamber of Commerce is pleased to welcome Francine Jones-Calvert, Independent Safety Educator with Damsel in Defense as the newest member of our organization.

Damsel in Defense has a mission to equip, empower and educate women to protect themselves and their families with non-lethal personal safety and self-defense tools.

The Idaho-based business has been around since 2011, and Francine has been presenting workshops on safety and awareness in public places for individuals, families, friends, organizations, businesses and groups for the past five years.

The products she promotes are layered protection … pepper spray (featuring a staining UV dye), a striking tool and stun devices. Each item is key to safety, and sometimes survival.

The educator knows first-hand how to protect herself in a dangerous situation as she herself was attacked many years ago near a shopping mall entrance. One of the first things she did was get loud.

“In defense mode, you do whatever it takes to be loud. If you have products on you, be comfortable with what you carry and use them!” she exclaimed. “You want to have these tools in hand before you get out of your vehicle, walk out of your house or out of a store.”

Francine teams up with the Broken Arrow Police Department to do a quarterly self-defense class that is open to the public. Damsel in Defense also teams up with Domestic Violence Intervention Services (DVIS), The Demand Project and a few other organizations that work to combat domestic violence, s*x trafficking and human trafficking.

In November, she will be among our speakers at the Coweta Chamber membership meeting that will focus on personal safety.

Our new investor also has information about a Damsel in Defense safety app you can download on your cell phone. By clicking on the app, it will notify your emergency contacts via text message of your exact location where help is needed.

Our Coweta Chamber investor Aspen Insurance Coaches is teaming up with Broken Arrow Seniors to host this symposium geared towards "The Sandwich Generation" - those who have young adult children and aging parents. The gathering will take place at Broken Arrow Senior Center, East Building Media Room, 1800 S. Main Street in Broken Arrow.

Speakers Matthew Zelk and Sara Tweedy will share the perfect recipe for this generation's own next chapter.

Here we go, Coweta Tiger Fans! It's time for us to gather up some non-perishable food items for the 3rd Annual Coweta vs. Wagoner "Fans Fighting Hunger" Food Drive challenge running now through August 27.

Take your food items to BancFirst on Highway 51 or to the Oklahoma Farm Bureau Insurance office in the Coweta OK Broadway District. All food collected here will be taken to local food pantries for distribution.

The community that collects the most items will be awarded a traveling trophy at the 2026 Coweta vs. Wagoner football game on August 28.

Together, we can all make a difference as we tackle food insecurity. Let's do this, Coweta! 🧡🖤
