Adults through Seniors.

Artist/Instructor: Tom Nelson.
This class is a three session class on Saturdays: June 13, 20, & 27. (one registration for the three classes)
We will set up along the Hudson first at Coxsackie Riverside Park. Learn to paint quickly and with confidence. Learn not to fear the landscape, match colors of nature, use a fast drying to slow drying medium to achieve different effects, work on small panels (i.e. 8 x 10 inches), break landscape components into shapes, arrange in space and “map out” in pencil.
Many artist materials will be available, but students should bring a basic set of oils, introductory set of small tubes 21ml, small soft hair brushes, sizes 0 through 12 for example. A palette (any piece of thin plywood 1/8 to 1/4 inch thick), thinner, medium, and several smooth substrates (i.e. 8 x 10 inches) such as masonite or heavy paper coated with gesso, varnish or even light red paint (another traditional ground). A “Plein Air” sketch box, or pochade box is great, but it isn’t required as many artists prefer a lap board while sitting on a pillow on the ground or on a folding camp stool. Acrylic paints are allowed but not recommended, unless the artist has a drying inhibitor medium. Proper color mixing is best achieved with slower drying paints. (3 classes. 3 hours each session)

Create and nurture a thriving garden to yield delicious vegetables. Starting with planning, which includes where to put the garden, soil quality and pH, and what and when to plant. You’ll then learn about how to care for your veggie patch with proper watering, mulching, fertilizing, and weeding. We will cover crop rotation and companion planting. We will discuss when to harvest your crops and putting the garden to bed before the winter.
