The Village would like to announce an important step in community planning, the updating of our Comprehensive Plan.
The Comprehensive Plan is a document that was last updated back in 2008, jointly by the Town and Village of Coxsackie. The document served over the years as a tool and guide on many issues facing the community, and was well used and referred to in the Village.
In the world of community planning, the standard is that your Comprehensive Plan should be updated ideally every 10-15 years. We are a little behind, but not too bad. This update provides a unique opportunity to again partner with the Town of Coxsackie, but now also add in the Greene County IDA, as they have been instrumental in the development of the Route 9W corridor.
The Village, the Town, and the IDA, are all equally sharing in the cost of an updated Comprehensive Plan. The IDA is acting as the primary contracting agency, and has contracted with EDR, a large, highly respected, and experienced company to lead the effort.
The Village has previously used Elan Planning, out of Saratoga, when we were awarded the NY Forward Grant back in 2023. They have merged into EDR. So, we have the benefit of all that knowledge and experience of the Village with the Elan folks.
The project steering/management committee for the project includes April Ernst, Greene County IDA Executive Director, Greene County IDA Board Member Fred Hinrichsen, Town of Coxsackie Supervisor Rick Hanse, Councilman Shane Pilato, Village of Coxsackie Mayor Mark Evans, Trustee Rodney Levine, Trustee Chris Hanse, Town Resident Harry Albright, and Town Planning Board Member Linda Deubert.
We expect and encourage people to become involved in this process as it unfolds over the next year. There is a link on the Village website under the Clerk’s office. Please refer to this site to keep up on the progress and opportunities for input.

Both the Town and Village look a lot different than they did back in 2008, when the plan was last updated, and have both changed dramatically in the last 5 years. The Comprehensive Plan is the tool for the community to decide what that future change should look like.
Please check the website and Village Facebook often to keep up. We are looking forward to this process.
