Have you ever wondered why sometimes rationally we know we shouldn’t get so worked up about something yet somehow everything just feels out of hand? It seems like you’re being torn two different directions? That’s because your body is saying one thing and your mind is saying something completely different about a given situation. The same place in the brain responsible for body temperature hunger drive thirst drive s*x drive also stores, automatic responses, and memories, such as taking the car for a drive going deep within your thoughts and snapping out of it miles later and going oh my God who was driving the car ? Your automatic mind was driving the car, which is the same thing that drives the activation of the fight flight freeze response ! so sometimes your body just needs to find neutral so that your head can catch up and when you can find neutral instead of seeking pleasure or excitement, even if it’s positive ways, it still keeps the body excited this leads to problems…so if you can find neutral in your body, it will settle down the survival centers in the brain, and can quiet it down enough that your prefrontal cortex or mind can actually communicate with the automatic part of your mind!!

A&S Counseling is accepting referrals for our Virtual Substance Use Disorder Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP).

Our program provides structured, professional substance use treatment while allowing clients to remain at home, continue working, and stay connected to their families and communities.

💻 Virtual SUD IOP
• 3 days of structured group treatment each week
• Weekly individual counseling
• Serving eligible clients throughout Colorado

Our goal isn’t simply to help people stop using substances. We help clients understand their patterns, build healthier coping skills, strengthen recovery supports, and create a life that makes long-term recovery possible.
