Updates on the Big Gulch Fire

Big Gulch Fire Update
Moffat County Sheriff's Office

The wildfire burning in the area of Moffat County Road 3 and County Road 106 has been officially named the Big Gulch Fire.

The fire is currently estimated at approximately 1,500 acres and is 0% contained. Fire crews continue to actively engage the fire using both ground and aerial resources.

Road Closures

The following road closures remain in effect:

Moffat County Road 3 at County Road 106
Moffat County Road 3 at County Road 108
Moffat County Road 5 at County Road 17

These closures are necessary to allow firefighting personnel and equipment to operate safely. Motorists are asked to obey all road closure signs and avoid the area.

The Moffat County Sheriff's Office also extends its sincere appreciation to the numerous private landowners who have stepped forward to assist the firefighting effort by providing water and heavy equipment, including a dozer used to construct fire line. Their support has been invaluable in protecting lives, property, and agricultural resources.

Power Restoration

Yampa Valley Electric Association has restored power to the affected area. If anyone is still without electrical service, please contact Yampa Valley Electric Association to report the outage.

Public Safety

We ask all members of the public to stay out of the fire area. Unnecessary traffic creates hazards for firefighters, emergency equipment, utility crews, and aircraft working to contain the fire and protect nearby properties.

The Moffat County Sheriff's Office will continue to provide updates as additional information becomes available.
