There’s no wrong season for Freeman Reservoir. From summer greens to golden fall colors to a fresh blanket of snow, Freeman looks a little different every time you visit, and somehow it’s always beautiful.

While you’re there, keep your eyes on the sky. Freeman is also a great spot for birdwatching, including bald eagles like the ones you’ll catch in this video.

All events take place in Dinosaur National Monument unless otherwise noted. Weather permitting.

Friday, September 11
2-4 pm Safe Solar Viewing at the Quarry Visitor Center
8-10 pm Stargazing with Telescopes at Steinaker State Park in Vernal, UT. Meet in the beach parking lot south of the campground. Bring a camp chair, minimize flashlight use, no pets.

Saturday, September 12
2-4 pm Sun Crafts & Safe Solar Viewing at the Quarry Visitor Center
8-10 pm Stargazing with Telescopes at the Split Mountain Campground. Meet in the closed loop at the south end. Bring a camp chair, minimize flashlight use, no pets.

Sunday, September 13
2-4 pm Safe Solar Viewing at the Quarry Visitor Center

September is here, and there’s plenty happening across Moffat County! This month’s Visit Moffat County Tourism Update is all about making the most of the shift into fall. We’re highlighting the Dinosaur Stone Age Stampede, Fall Festival, barrel racing, the Farm Bureau Chili Dinner & Dance, and a few more reasons to get out and enjoy September.

We’re also taking one more trip to Craig River Park for our Outdoor Adventure Spotlight and introducing Projects Chair Nick LaGorga in this month’s Board Member Spotlight.

Cooler days, community celebrations, and late-season adventures are on the way. Fall into Moffat County with us!

Our annual Visit Moffat County river trip brought together an incredible group of people for a few days exploring the landscapes, waterways, and wild places that make this corner of Colorado so special. Between the rapids, camp nights, good conversations, and plenty of laughs along the way, it’s safe to say this crew had a pretty great time. A big thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make another trip on the river one to remember. More photos and videos coming soon!

Meet Visit Moffat County Projects Chair Nick LaGorga!
Originally from Northern New York, Nick made the Yampa Valley home in 2016 after being drawn to the area’s strong sense of community and year-round events.

As the owner of Yampa Valley Entertainment, Nick brings years of experience in live event production, community programming, and event development to the board. His goal is to help strengthen the events we already love while creating new opportunities that bring people together and give visitors even more reasons to experience Moffat County.
