Before organizing or collecting donations, it is always encouraged that anyone interested in helping to contact the affected county's Emergency Management Office first. At this time the county's Emergency Management Department has requested that no donations be collected or sent at this time. Receiving unrequested donations can create storage, staffing, and distribution challenges during an active response. This can create its own incident and distract attention and resources away from the immediate response and recovery efforts following the storm.

As recovery efforts continue, Winnebago County Emergency Management will share information when specific donations or volunteer assistance is needed. Please visit their page for more information.

After storms, many are cleaning up downed branches and debris. Please keep safety in mind:

🌳 Watch for downed or low-hanging power linesβ€”stay far away and report them to your utility.
πŸͺš Use chainsaws and other equipment carefully, and wear proper protective gear.
🌲 Be aware of damaged trees and hanging limbs that could fall without warning.
🌑️ With the heat and humidity, don’t push yourself. Take frequent breaks, drink plenty of water, and know your limits.

Remember: We remain under a Thunderstorm Watch until 3:00 PM today, so additional storms could still develop. If you’re cleaning up outdoors, keep an eye on the weather and have a way to receive weather alerts. If thunder roars, head indoors.
