STABBING INCIDENT/BE ON THE LOOKOUT

Early this morning, Aurora PD was called to the area of the 500 block of South Porter. There, officers discovered an adult Hispanic male suffering from stab wounds. The victim was life flighted to a Springfield hospital and is expected to survive.

The investigation revealed the suspect in the stabbing is a Hispanic male named Gabriel Hernandez Urango. Urango had fled the scene prior to police being called. He is possibly still in the Aurora area and may be bleeding from injuries suffered during the attack. Aurora Police located and seized the knife used in the incident.

We caution the public against approaching the suspect due to suspected access to more knives. We believe he was possibly picked up by a friend driving a silver Kia van with no license plate.

We have information to believe he changed clothes after the stabbing and may be wearing a white sweatshirt and black cap. His shoes were located near the scene and he may be barefoot.

If you have information about this case or know the whereabouts of the suspect pictured in this post, please call the Aurora Police Department at 417-678-5025 or 911. Again, do not approach the suspect and call us immediately.

From August 19, 2026 to September 14, 2026, the Crane Police Department will be participating in the Summer Impaired Driving Enforcement Campaign, sponsored by the Missouri Department of Transportation. Extra officers will be on duty during this time period to monitor for impaired drivers. Don’t Drink and Drive or use other mind altering substances. You WILL go to jail and the consequences are costly.

On August 9, 2026, at approximately 2:00am, Crane Police observed an unidentified, individual carrying a backpack, run from an alley near the intersection of Rose Avenue and Main Street. When the officer attempted to investigate the situation, the individual stopped, looked at the officer and then ran down another alley behind Main Street businesses. The officer was able to catch up with the suspect, who again attempted to break away and flee. Once the officer had the suspect detained, she was identified at Peggy Cassandra Schofield of Aurora, Missouri. Ms Schofield gave the officer consent to search her backpack. During the search, the officer discovered methamphetamine and other drug paraphernalia. Schofield was booked into the Stone County Jail on charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Methamphetamine Precursors, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Failure to Obey Orders from a Law Enforcement Officer and Resisting or Fleeing Arrest. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty.
