Stop by the Thomas H. Kuchel Visitor Center and see how your wingspan stacks up against the California condor!

The condors were back. But the visitor centers hadn't caught up yet.

In 2022, endangered California condors returned to Redwood National and State Parks (NPS) for the first time in over 100 years, though a restoration effort led by the Yurok Tribe. But inside the park's visitor centers, the content hadn't caught up yet.

There was no mention of the condor, no sense of scale, no story.

Your support closed that gap.

A new exhibit renders the condor at its true nine-foot wingspan, alongside its Yurok name, prey-go-neesh, and the story of its return after more than a hundred years.

For the first time, visitors can stand next to that wingspan and understand exactly what came back to these skies.

Everyone should have the opportunity to experience the wonder of these places. 🌲

Recently, we partnered with David’s Chair Outdoor Mobility Systems and Redwood National and State Parks for an Excursion in the Redwoods, giving people with mobility challenges the opportunity to experience the beauty of Elk Meadow Day Use Area.

And this is just one way we’re working to make the parks more accessible and welcoming to everyone.

Celebrate National Park Week by getting out among the trees 🌲

Just off Highway 101 in Redwood National and State Parks, Lady Bird Johnson Grove is a beautiful introduction to the redwoods. The 1.5-mile loop winds through towering old-growth trees, with interpretive signs along the way inviting you to slow down, look up, and take in the forest.

Named for former First Lady Lady Bird Johnson, the grove was dedicated in 1969 following her efforts to champion the conservation of America’s natural landscapes.

We’re excited to welcome Diana Heise, Bobby Lee, and Nick Vasquez to Redwood National & State Parks.

Working across photography, film, artist books, and poetry, these three artists bring distinct perspectives to the landscapes of the redwoods. During their residencies, they’ll spend time exploring the parks and creating new work inspired by these extraordinary places.
