Also known as Sound Meditation, Sound Therapy, or Soundbath, this is an ancient tradition with modern applications. This event will introduce you to the fundamentals of how it works, some of the instruments used, and will address the question: "is sound a healing force on its own, or does it create conditions where the body can heal itself?". The Del Norte County Library invites you to our Double Feature Documentary Night on Monday, June 15, at 6 PM, to enjoy and learn about some of Oregon's history! Admission is FREE and complimentary popcorn will be provided to our movie guests. The documentaries being shown are 'Samurai in the Sky' and 'On Paper Wings'. The movie synopses are:

Samurai in the Sky: "In 1942, Japanese pilot Nobuo Fujita catapulted his seaplane off of a submarine, flew over the forests of southern Oregon, and conducted the only manned aerial bombings of the United States mainland during WWII. He never dreamed he would one day by invited back to the region, where he would begin a 35-year friendship with the people of a small Oregon town. Samurai in the Oregon Sky tells the story of how Mr. Fujita came to refer to his former target as his "second home."

On Paper Wings: "During WWII, the Japanese military developed an ew weapon intended to strike directly at the American continent - the balloon bomb. Thousands of hydrogen-filled balloons were attached to bombs and then launched into the jet stream to drift toward North America.

When six civilians found a balloon bomb in Southern Oregon, the device exploded. They became the only people killed on the continental U.S. as the result of enemy action during WWII.

"On Paper Wings" is the story of four Japanese women who worked on balloon bombs, the families of those killed in Oregon, and the man whose actions brought them all together forty years after WWII, and the balloon bomb project."
