Crescent Butte Fire Update – August 8, 2026

Sorry it’s taken me this long to get this information out. The phones and radio have been crazy today.

The Crescent Butte Fire started around 2:00 p.m. today, August 8. Crews are actively working the fire, with multiple air resources assisting with suppression efforts.

Crescent and Gilchrist are currently under a Level 2 evacuation notice (Be Ready).

The fire is currently estimated at approximately 5 acres with active spotting. At this time, the fire is not heading toward either community, but conditions can change quickly. Please stay aware of evacuation information, monitor local updates, and stay safe.

We are also asking everyone to stay out of the fire area. This allows firefighters and other emergency resources to move safely and efficiently while they are working to contain the fire.

Please give our firefighters and emergency responders room to work. Stay safe, everyone.

Yesterday, our new Resident Student Volunteers had the opportunity to attend the Hands On Critters program at the Crescent Branch Library alongside our career staff.

They didn’t just observe, they jumped in to help! Our volunteers assisted by walking the animals around the room, giving everyone a chance to get an up-close look while helping make the experience fun and educational for all who attended.

We’re proud to see our newest members already getting involved in the community and representing Crescent Fire District. Thank you to the Crescent Branch Library for having us. We’re looking forward to many more opportunities to connect with our community!

On Friday, our recruit class traveled to Klamath Community College to reinforce the skills they’ve been introduced to over the last 2 weeks of their academy.

We value the partnerships with our surrounding community colleges to facilitate training opportunities that go beyond the environments we can provide in-house. Thank you KCC for making your facility available for our fire districts use!

🚒 Training the Next Generation of Firefighters 🚒

A big thank you to Crescent Rural Fire Protection District for utilizing the Klamath Community College Regional Training Grounds to help develop the skills of their student firefighters!

During their training, participants practiced hose deployments, teamwork, physical conditioning, and other essential firefighter skills in a realistic training environment.

Opportunities like these help build confidence, competence, and readiness for future emergency responses.

We are proud to support fire agencies throughout the region by providing a dedicated facility for hands-on firefighter training.

We are excited to welcome 8 new recruits who have joined our family. Over the next several weeks, you’ll see them out and about in our community putting in the work during early morning runs and afternoon training sessions.

This is the beginning of a challenging and rewarding journey. Our recruits will spend countless hours learning, training, and building the skills needed to serve our community.

Please help us welcome our newest members and wish them the best as they begin their path toward becoming Firefighter/Paramedics.
