⏰ REMINDER: Property Tax Appeal Deadline is THIS Thursday, July 23

If you own property on Sapelo Island, now is the time to review your property tax assessment. If you believe your property has been overassessed, your appeal must be submitted by Thursday, July 23. Once the deadline passes, you cannot appeal.

Please help spread the word. Reach out to family, friends, neighbors, and especially senior property owners—or their children—to make sure they are aware of this deadline.

We are truly grateful to everyone who has continued to stand with the Hogg Hummock community.

Tuesday’s Planning & Zoning meeting was well attended, and the Planning & Zoning Commission voted to table the proposed Hogg Hummock zoning ordinance.

There is another meeting TODAY.

The McIntosh County Board of Commissioners will hold a Special Called Meeting to consider sending a revised, updated zoning ordinance for Hogg Hummock to the McIntosh County Planning & Zoning Commission for a public hearing and recommendation at its August 4, 2026, meeting.

TODAY: Planning & Zoning Public Hearing

Today, the McIntosh County Planning & Zoning Commission will hold a public hearing on the proposed zoning ordinance affecting our community on Sapelo Island. We encourage everyone who is able to attend, learn more about what’s being proposed, and stand with us.

For generations, Hogg Hummock descendants have worked to protect the land passed down to us and preserve one of the last intact island-based Gullah Geechee communities on the Georgia coast. This process goes beyond zoning. It is about protecting a living community, preserving our culture, and safeguarding our ability to remain on our ancestral land.

It was a beautiful day filled with reflection, fellowship, amazing food, and remembrance as we honored the resilience, sacrifices, and legacy of our ancestors. Thank you for helping make this year’s celebration so special. We are grateful to everyone who attended, volunteered, performed, shared their stories, and contributed to preserving and celebrating this important history.
