“When I was growing up in the hills of East Tennessee, I knew my dreams would come true. I know there are children in your community with their own dreams. They dream of becoming a doctor or an inventor or a minister. Who knows, maybe there is a little girl whose dream is to be a writer and singer. The seeds of these dreams are often found in books and the seeds you help plant in your community can grow across the world.”

Dolly Parton, who died on Tuesday in Nashville at age 80, rose from poverty to become a top-selling singer, songwriter and pop culture figure whose songs spoke to millions. Inducted into both the country music and rock ’n’ roll halls of fame, Parton was the top-ranking female singer on country radio from 1967 to 1993, and had a total of 25 No. 1 country singles. The Hog Hammock Public Library preserves a large (proportionally!) collection of works on the people and history of Hog Hammock, Sapelo, and the Low Country. You can support the preservation of this knowledge and heritage just by visiting the library! Even if you're not using those particular items, coming in the door and using any of our resources - computers, wifi, research help, database access to the AJC, Ancestry, etc - shows our funders that the library is an important community hub. We hope to see you soon - we're open today 3-7PM 📚💻📜
