The Cresco Police Department is excited to present National Night Out 2027!

We're looking forward to another fun-filled evening with our community, and we'd love your input as we begin planning the event. Was there something that stood out to you that you loved and would like for us to bring back again this time? Are you interested in volunteering to help?

Please take a few moments to let us know what you would like to see at this year's National Night Out by using this Google form. (Please note, the Circus that is typically going at the same time is not booked by Cresco Police Department, as they are brought in by the Cresco Kiwanis.)

We are glad to accept donations for this event for those who cannot participate but would still like to give. Donation checks can be mailed to Cresco Police Department % Lt. Sam Fotiadis 130 N Park Place, Cresco IA 52136. Please make the check out to Cresco Police Department and in the subject line please write National Night Out 2027. Please include if you would like to have your name published as a "Thank You" for your donation or if you would rather stay anonymous.

We also would be interested in having businesses that may be willing to sponsor this event as well. Please reach out to Lt. Fotiadis at the below email address if you are interested.

FOUND KITTEN

Apparently, someone decided the A&W drive-thru needed a feline food critic today. 😂

This cat was found hanging around the A&W drive-thru and, while we’re not sure if it was waiting for a cheeseburger, a root beer, or simply hoping someone would notice how adorable it is… we’re pretty sure it did NOT have a valid coupon.

🐾 If this is your cat, please reach out to us so we can get this little drive-thru bandit back home!

🚨 SCAM ALERT: Not every “GIVEAWAY!” on Facebook is actually a giveaway. 🚨

We’ve seen an increase in fake Facebook posts pretending to be Kwik Trip and Casey's, offering gift cards, free gas, or other prizes. 🎁⛽

The catch? There is no prize. Unless you count the scammers getting your personal information. 😬

Before you click that link because you’ve supposedly “won” a $500 gift card you never entered to win, take a second to check the page. Look for suspicious links, newly created accounts, odd spelling, and requests for personal or payment information.

A few simple rules:
👉 If you didn’t enter, you probably didn’t win.

👉 Don’t click suspicious links.

👉 Never send personal or financial
information through Facebook messages.

👉 When in doubt, go directly to the company’s official website or social media page.

👉 Report fake pages and posts.

And remember: if a giveaway seems too good to be true, it probably is.

Stay safe, Cresco! And please don’t let a fake $100 gift card cost you your actual $100. 😂

Thank you to our friends at Lickteig's for the reminder about grass in the roadway.

The Cresco Police Department has recently received reports from two parents who, while reviewing their children’s cell phones, discovered inappropriate text messages from an unknown individual.

We encourage all parents and guardians to be vigilant and take a few moments to check their children’s phones and talk with them about online safety. Fortunately, these parents were proactive in monitoring their children’s devices, which helped identify the concerning messages.

Regular conversations about internet safety and reviewing your child’s phone can be valuable tools in keeping them safe. If you discover any suspicious or inappropriate messages, please contact the Cresco Police Department so we can investigate.

Working together as a community is one of the best ways to protect our children.

We have been made aware of people advertising real local properties on marketplace and other platforms requesting an application fee. We are not aware of anyone in our area that charges an application fee. Please be cautious and confirm that you are talking to the real owner or manager before applying to rent a property.
