Two more August dates just added.

We’ve added Saturday, August 29 and Sunday, August 30 to the calendar for Exploration & Photography at Cresson Sanatorium & Prison.

Spend a few hours exploring, taking photos, and seeing the property at your own pace. Choose a 3-hour pass for $40 or a full-day pass for $80. We'll be open 9am to 6pm, and you're welcome to arrive whenever is best for you.

If you’ve been wanting to get out here, we’d love to have you. (Turkeys just for attention)

Not every child sent to Cresson had tuberculosis.

For years, Cresson operated a “Preventorium” for children who had been exposed to tuberculosis or were considered especially vulnerable to developing the disease.

The idea was prevention. Children were brought to the mountain for nutritious food, rest, sunshine, fresh air, medical supervision and school.

By 1932, Cresson had opened a dedicated Children’s House with 122 beds and nursery space.

That building is still here.

Today, we know it as Building 1, later called Maple House.

One building. Nearly a century of very different lives inside it.

We’ll be sharing more pieces of Cresson’s documented history as we work to preserve both the property and the stories of the people who lived here.
