This coming Saturday evening, 5-7 PM, we are hosting on behalf of the City of Cresson an open house for input on how to make Cresson area streets safer. The City has received a planning grant to define improvements to our roadways to enhance our safety. Everyone in the Cresson area is invited to give their input on problem areas. Mother's Day had a unique situation for us. While many of our volunteers were arriving at our station to prepare for possible severe weather, some of our local folks came by and asked for our help. Their cow had been struggling to deliver a calf for 2-3 days. When it was obvious she couldn't deliver a living calf, we helped pull the still born male calf and were able to save the mother cow's life. Not a procedure technically in our EMS protocols, but we got it done.

Saturday, the Granbury Friends of Memorial Lane made their annual recognition of a Firefighter of the Year from each of Hood county’s 9 volunteer fire departments. Cresson’s members selected Lt. Kevin Olivarez for this well deserved honor. Kevin served with us several years ago before moving away. He moved his family back to Cresson a few years ago, rejoined out department, got his EMT certification with us, and is looking to start his paramedic training. He’s one of many of our volunteers, and those on other departments, who give many hours to help others.
