The Village of Creston is installing a mixer in the water tower. We are hoping that this will at the very least reduce if not eliminate the problems we have been having with rust and sediment in the Village’s water supply. This will require the Village to drain the water tower and run off the wells. We have already started to drain the tower a little at a time to cause as little disruption as possible. We will need to finish draining the tower on Monday, 4/27 so that the firm that we have hired to install the mixer can start cleaning the tower on 4/28. During this time, some residents may experience yellow water and/or low pressure. The Village has acquired pressure valves that will be installed to help relieve the pressure on the water mains. We will also have several water hydrants “leaking” in an effort to relieve pressure as well. The process may take a week ore more depending on how smoothly things go. The tower must be completely drained and cleaned. Then the mixer will be installed. Once that is done, the tower must be sanitized. Once the sanitization is done, then we can partially fill the tower. We will then need to take samples over the course of a day or two to make sure the water is safe and properly balanced. We must get 2 back to back “clear” samples before we can finish filling the tower. As stated, we will finish draining the tower on Monday, 4/27 and the firm that is installing the mixer will start their work on Tuesday 4/27. We estimate that the tower will be offline the last week of April and the first week of May if everything goes smoothly. It could take longer if problems arise or if it takes a while to get a “clear” sample back. We appreciate your patience through this process and we sincerely hope that when all is said and done, this will reduce or eliminate the water issues we have been experiencing. We will keep you informed as the process is carried out and if there are any boil orders or other issues that come up, we will notify you as soon as possible.
