Adams Community Economic Development Director Raelynne was given a challenge yesterday by someone who stopped in her office—track down a house with nothing more than a date of birth and the town of Prescott. She came to her county staff for help.

Kandi, Deputy Auditor, and Cadie, Deputy Recorder dug in to help her… and let’s just say, it turned into a full-on lesson in record searching and a little detective work 🔍

Because it’s not always as simple as pulling one document.

Sometimes you have to think bigger:
• What family names might be connected?
• How old could they have been when they got married?
• Did they rent land? (which we don’t have records of)
• Were they living on a family farm owned by parents?

There isn’t always a straight path. It’s about piecing together clues, asking the right questions, and working through what might be possible based on the information you have.

This is the kind of behind-the-scenes work that we do that many don't see, but it’s what helps us serve our communities better every day.

Proud of this group for digging in and figuring it out. 👏 It was fun to be sitting out front and coaching them. At the end, it was concluded the individual probably rented land, but I can say these ladies did great detective work and learned a lot in the process.
