Beginning Monday, August 17, a Multi-Agency Resource Center will be open to all Will County residents at the Village of University Park Community Room.

📍 90 Town Center Drive, University Park
⏰ Monday–Friday: 9:00 AM–6:00 PM
⏰ Saturday: 9:00 AM–1:00 PM

The Resource Center will serve as a place for residents to connect with storm recovery information, resources, and available assistance.

Help may include:
• SNAP replacement benefits
• Insurance claim navigation assistance
• Cleanup support
• Emotional support
• Veteran support
• School supplies
• Pet supplies
• And more

Agencies currently scheduled to participate include American Red Cross, Illinois Department of Human Services, Illinois Department of Insurance, Illinois Emergency Management Agency, Salvation Army, U.S. Department of Agriculture, Veterans Assistance Commission of Will County, Will County Animal Protection Services, Will County Health Department, and Will County Regional Office of Education.

Please share this information with anyone who may have been impacted by the storms.

🚌 Back-to-School Safety: School Bus Safety

As students head back to school, remember that safety starts before they even reach the classroom. Whether you’re driving, walking, or riding the bus, everyone has a role in keeping students safe.

🛑 Drivers: Slow down and stop when a school bus has its red lights flashing and stop arm extended. Never pass a stopped school bus.

🚶 Students: Stay alert around buses, use sidewalks and crosswalks when available, and wait for the bus to come to a complete stop before approaching.

🚌 Bus riders: Stay seated, keep aisles clear, keep hands and heads inside the bus, and follow the driver’s instructions.

Let’s make this school year a safe one for every student. Slow down, stay alert, and watch for school buses!

Please use the following as a guide to generator safety. During most storms we are using backup and whole house generators for short periods of time. With the resent storms we have seen extended periods of use, with this comes additional cation that needs to be taken. Please use the following a a guide to generator safety.

We have responded to several incidents over the past 24 hours involving generators and carbon monoxide (CO). Carbon Monoxide referred to as the "silent killer" is colorless, odorless, and can prove fatal. If using a portable generator, please remember these basic safety guidelines:

Keep generators OUTSIDE and at least 20 feet away from your home, doors, windows, and vents.
• NEVER operate a generator inside a home, garage, or other enclosed space, even with the garage door open.
• Point generator exhaust away from your home. Carbon monoxide (CO) is odorless, poisonous, and can be deadly.
• Make sure your home has working carbon monoxide alarms.
• Plug appliances directly into the generator or use properly rated outdoor extension cords.
• Never refuel a hot or running generator. Turn it off and allow it to cool first.

⚡ Always treat downed power lines as LIVE. Stay clear and keep others away.

Damage assessment ending soon!

After speaking with our state partners this morning regarding data collection for our self-reporting Damage Assessment Survey, they have requested that all damage impact data be submitted by Sunday.

As a result, the survey will officially close at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, August 9.

Please help us spread the word within your community and encourage residents to submit their damage assessment surveys as soon as possible before the deadline this Sunday. Your assistance in sharing this information is greatly appreciated.

As a reminder, the self-reporting damage assessment survey can be found through calling 2-1-1 or on the Will County EMA website at willcountyema.org/storm.

A message from the Will County Emergency Management Department

Please see the following update regarding the fallen tree assistance process.

Christian Aid Ministries Rapid Response Services and IDES (International Disaster Emergency Service) will be in Will County to assist residents with cutting up fallen trees and moving the debris to the public right-of-way.
Please share the following process with residents who need assistance:
Call 2-1-1 and request tree cleanup assistance.
Complete the Will County Damage Survey at willcountyema.org/storm. Residents should include their name, address, email address, and phone number.
Watch for a text message from 2-1-1 containing a waiver. The waiver must be signed before assistance can be provided.
A Christian Aid Ministries administrator will follow up directly with residents who request assistance.
Residents who already completed the Will County Damage Survey and requested tree cleanup assistance through the survey will be contacted by Christian Aid Ministries and provided with a paper waiver form.
Assistance is based on volunteer availability and the type of work needed.
