Honoring Our Heroes: National Police Week 2026

As we observe National Police Week 2026, the Crete Police Department pauses to honor the memory of the law enforcement officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
This week is a solemn reminder of the courage, dedication, and selflessness required to wear the badge. We stand in solidarity with the families, friends, and colleagues of those we have lost, ensuring their legacy of service is never forgotten.

Reflecting on Service
To our officers currently serving the Crete community: thank you for your unwavering commitment to public safety. Whether you are patrolling our streets, investigating complex cases, or engaging with our citizens, your hard work keeps our community strong and secure.

We are also deeply grateful for the support of the citizens of Crete. Your partnership is vital to our mission. National Police Week is not only a time for remembrance but also an opportunity to strengthen the bonds between law enforcement and the people we serve.
"The wicked flee when no man pursueth: but the righteous are as bold as a lion." — Proverbs 28:1

Join Us in Remembrance
We invite you to take a moment this week to remember the fallen and to show your support for those who continue to serve.

Together, we honor the past and build a safer future for Crete.

🚛 What a Wheel-y Great Day! 🚒
A huge thank you to the roughly 200 neighbors who joined us this past Saturday, April 25, for our Touch-a-Truck event! From 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, the parking lot was buzzing with excitement as kids (and kids at heart) got an up-close look at their favorite big rigs and emergency vehicles.

🛡️ Safety First
It wasn’t all just horns and sirens! Officer Arbuckle and Lt. Jonas spent the morning chatting with our young visitors about vehicle and occupant protection safety.

We were so impressed to see the kids demonstrate their "safety superpowers" by showing us exactly how to buckle up properly. Seeing those seatbelts clicked into place correctly makes all the difference!

🛣️ Supporting Our Community
This event was made possible as part of the STEP Highway Safety Grant. Our goal is to keep our roads safe for everyone, and starting that education early with our youngest drivers-to-be is a vital part of that mission.

Thank you to everyone who came out to climb, explore, and learn with us!

May 2026 – Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month and National Bicycle Safety Month

Crete, Nebraska — The Crete Police Department would like to inform drivers that May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month. The number of motorcyclists killed in crashes in 2020 was 5,579. This is an 11% increase from 2019. Per vehicle miles traveled in 2020, motorcyclist fatalities occurred nearly 28 times more frequently than passenger car occupant fatalities in traffic crashes. To keep everyone safe, we urge drivers and motorcyclists to share the road and be alert, and we’re reminding motorcyclists to make themselves visible, to use DOT-compliant motorcycle helmets, and to always ride sober.

May is also National Bicycle Safety Month. Bicyclists are strongly encouraged to wear a Consumer Product Safety Commission approved helmet at all times. Bicyclists should be paying attention and following the rules of the road. Do not count on drivers to keep you safe.

To help encourage safe driving, officers with the Crete Police Department will be participating in a national high-visibility enforcement effort May 15th to May 31st, 2026. Law enforcement officers nationwide will work together to enforce safe driving and seatbelt use and remind drivers to: Make It Click.
