🐾 Celebrating Our Four-Legged Hero! 🐾

In honor of National Police K-9 Day, the Crete Police Department is shining a well-deserved spotlight on one of our most dedicated and hardworking team members: K9 Hunk and his handler, Officer Audrey Arbuckle!

Whether they are tracking suspects, searching for missing persons, or keeping our streets secure, Hunk works tirelessly alongside Officer Arbuckle every single day. Their bond, training, and unwavering commitment to public safety make them an invaluable asset to the City of Crete.

Two private utilities currently have subcontractors working in Crete neighborhoods installing new infrastructure. Michel, a contractor for Black Hills Energy, has been working on new gas lines, while other contractors for Kinetic are now working on new fiber placement. Both have right-of-way permits to work within the city. Contractors are aware they are to notify residents of work that would occur in the vicinity of, or on private property. While the City has no involvement with these contractors, we can assist if issues arise.

Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy: "The City of Crete has been awarded a below market interest loan from the State Revolving Fund (SRF) Program for the construction of a new well and transmission main, as well as the re-placement of water mains in several locations. Federal and state funds are being used for this project to help grow our communities and to help grow Nebraska."

Last day for in-person registration at City Hall for Crete Recreation Flag Football is today (Friday Aug. 28). RecDesk online registration is open through Sunday, Aug. 30 (link below).

This fall program is for youth in grades 1-4 with games on Sunday afternoons at Armory Park (Sept. 13, 20, 27, Oct. 4).
Coaches and referees are also needed. Coaches attend games and organize a weekly practice. Coaches meeting is Thursday, Sept. 3 at the City Park Bandstand from 5:00 - 5:30 p.m.
Referees attend games only. Parents who coach will have the registration fee waived for their child.

September 2026 – Child Passenger Safety Month

Crete, Nebraska — The Crete Police Department would like to inform drivers that in September, we will be focusing on Child Passenger Safety. Car seats and booster seats provide the protection children need to stay safe in the car. Yet many parents and caregivers are not always using the right seat. Did you know car crashes are the leading cause of death for children ages birth to 13? That is why it is so important to choose the right seat and know the law for your child’s safety. Keep your child safe in their car seat, every age and every stage.

The Crete Police Department will be participating in a free Car Seat Check Event. This event will take place on Thursday, September 24th from 5-7 pm at the Crete High School located at 1750 Iris Avenue. If you have a car seat that needs inspection, please bring the car seat and your child. If you are in need of a car seat, a certified inspector will assist you at the event.

Reminder: The next residential recycling collection day in Crete is next Thursday, Sept. 3. Recycling collection is every other Thursday. Accepted recyclables include aluminum/tin, paper, cardboard, and plastics 1-7. Reminder: The Transfer Station is open for regular hours on Saturdays from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Tuesdays from 1 - 6 p.m.
- Free disposal of branches and yard waste;
- Disposal of household garbage, large trash items, and recyclables may have fees associated.
