Utility Update, Thursday, June 11: There is an ongoing power outage on the north side of town due to tree damage from last night's storm. Crete Police and the Electric Department crew responded overnight to make sure the area was safe and to begin repairs to downed lines and broken poles. Some service will be restored quickly, other customers may be out most of the day. Contact the Utilities Office at City Hall with any questions. Reminder: The next residential recycling collection day in Crete is Thursday (June 11). Accepted recyclables include aluminum/tin, paper, cardboard, and plastics 1-7. Please rinse out all food and beverage containers, and plastic items; all items can be placed in the same recycle tote.

Aluminum & Tin: Aluminum and tin cans, formed aluminum containers (example: disposable pie plates) and clean aluminum foil; Paper: Newspaper (including advertising supplements), magazines, brown grocery bags, telephone books, catalogs, office paper, junk mail, envelopes; empty chipboard (cereal boxes), wet strength carrier stock (TV dinner boxes); Cardboard: place clean corrugated cardboard boxes or shipping boxes under toter; break down or cut boxes so they are flat and no bigger than 2 X 2 ft; Plastic: numbers 1 - 7 plastic containers (numbers are located on bottom of container): soda/water/juice bottles, milk bottles, butter tubs, sour cream carton, dip containers, detergent/bleach bottles, household cleaner bottles etc.;

Not accepted: Styrofoam, rubber bands, soiled paper (pizza boxes/sandwich wrappers), food, tissue paper, paper towels, wax coated paper, shrink-wrap, plastic bags, wood, and glass.

Follow along with the progress of local gardeners at the Crete Community Garden this season. Multiple individual/family gardeners signed up this year as well as a group from the Crete Public Schools Family Literacy program.

Wildwood Pool will not have open swim hours on Saturday, June 6 as it hosts visiting teams for Crete Recreation RipTide Swim Team’s home meet. The pool will reopen for regular hours on Sunday at 1 p.m. Good luck to all the Crete swimmers competing tomorrow!

Registration is open for three sessions of youth Swimming Lessons in June and July for ages 4 and up. Register on RecDesk (https://cityofcrete.recdesk.com/Community/Home) or at City Hall. Registration opens on June 1 for Infant and Toddler Lessons for ages 6 months - 4 years.

Water Aerobics starts Monday (June 8): There is no pre-registration necessary - participants may attend as many sessions as they would like. Classes held Monday - Friday, from 9:10 - 9:50 a.m. Season pass for all classes is available for $40 or individual, daily class fee is $4 per class and includes daily pool admission. Aerobics season passes for those age 55 and over will receive a pool season pass at no additional cost.

Update June 5: The city has been in contact with organizers of a circus, which has advertised an event on June 13. They have now completed local permit requirements to hold their event in Crete.

Origianl post, June 3 - Notice: The City of Crete cannot verify any upcoming circus event will be hosted on public property nor is the city able to verify any such event is coming to Crete. The chairperson of the Saline County Fair Board also has no knowledge of any approved circus event. Those seeing ticket sales for any such event should beware.
