**Update, we have phones and internet, we are back up and running! Hope the rest of the community restores soon!***

Mother Nature had other plans for us today!

Due to the severe weather, the Crete Township Assessor’s Office is currently without internet and phone service. We are open for now, but depending on how long the outage lasts, we may limit our office hours today.

We know many in our community may also be dealing with power outages and storm cleanup, and we hope everyone is safe. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we wait for service to be restored.

We’ll share an update as soon as our phones and internet are back up and running. Until then, please stay safe, take care of one another, and know we’re looking forwardy to serving you again as soon as possible.

Hi everyone!

We’ve had many residents stop by the office recently anticipating the arrival of the Renewable Exemption forms. At this time, we have not yet received them from the Supervisor of Assessments Office, but they are typically mailed out soon—so they should be arriving any day now.

The Crete Township Assessor’s Office will be available to assist you with completing your forms once you receive them. We’re here to help make the process as smooth as possible.

In addition, we’re excited to host representatives from the Supervisor of Assessments Office on May 15th from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. We look forward to seeing you and answering any questions you may have!

Warmly,
Mary M. Tamez

🎉 Two Important Updates for Crete Township Seniors! 🎉

If this is your cake this year, we have a present for you! 🎂

Illinois offers two valuable property tax exemption programs for seniors, and recent updates mean more residents may qualify.

🏡 Senior Homestead Exemption
This exemption provides an 8,000 reduction in your home’s assessed value, helping lower your property tax bill.

Basic eligibility:
✔️ Age 65 or older
✔️ Own and occupy the home as your primary residence
✔️ Apply once (unless ownership or residency changes)

❄️ Senior Citizens Assessment Freeze (Senior Freeze)
The Senior Freeze helps lock in your home’s assessed value, protecting you from increases due to rising property values.

💰 Updated State of Illinois Income Limits:
• 2026 (taxes payable 2027): Household income $75,000 or less
• 2027 (taxes payable 2028): Household income $77,000 or less
• 2028 (taxes payable 2029): Household income $79,000 or less

Household income includes the combined income of all individuals living in the home as their primary residence.

Senior Freeze eligibility:
✔️ Age 65 or older
✔️ Own and occupy the home as your primary residence
✔️ Meet income limits
✔️ Apply every year

📄 Important Reminder:
➡️ Senior Freeze application forms will be available in April. If you applied in 2025, your renewal will be mailed to you!
Early preparation is encouraged so you’re ready when filing opens.

📍 Questions or need help applying?
The Crete Township Assessor’s Office is happy to help guide you through both programs.

Honored to be featured in the December Township Perspective from the Township Officials of Illinois following the TOI Annual Educational Conference.

It was such a meaningful experience — learning alongside peers, sharing ideas, and feeling genuine hope for what’s ahead. When different avenues of leadership come together with a shared goal, real progress happens.

The work we do matters. Educating one another, supporting local leaders, and strengthening the foundation of local government is how we build stronger communities. Collaboration, communication, and commitment truly make a difference.

Grateful to be part of a group that believes in working together to create positive change — and excited for what’s still to come.

We’re all in the middle of that fresh-start feeling as we step into a new year! I truly can’t believe it’s 2026 — it feels like we were just partying like it was 1999. Wow.

I wanted to share something I’ve started doing in both my personal and professional life that’s been such a helpful and grounding tool for me — and now is the perfect time for you to try it too. Take some time to reflect on the past year and write down goals for the year ahead.

I’ve been reviewing my hopes and dreams from 2025 — seeing what didn’t get accomplished (and adding those to the Mary-do list), along with celebrating everything that did happen. Looking back at where you were a year ago and all that’s brought you to today is pretty amazing.

Take an hour or two to focus on what’s ahead and make plans to do great things — for yourself, for the people you love, and for your work environment. I hope you enjoy watching your hopes and dreams unfold as much as I have.

Happy New Year… cheers!
