🎉 Two Important Updates for Crete Township Seniors! 🎉
If this is your cake this year, we have a present for you! 🎂
Illinois offers two valuable property tax exemption programs for seniors, and recent updates mean more residents may qualify.
🏡 Senior Homestead Exemption
This exemption provides an 8,000 reduction in your home’s assessed value, helping lower your property tax bill.
Basic eligibility:
✔️ Age 65 or older
✔️ Own and occupy the home as your primary residence
✔️ Apply once (unless ownership or residency changes)
❄️ Senior Citizens Assessment Freeze (Senior Freeze)
The Senior Freeze helps lock in your home’s assessed value, protecting you from increases due to rising property values.
💰 Updated State of Illinois Income Limits:
• 2026 (taxes payable 2027): Household income $75,000 or less
• 2027 (taxes payable 2028): Household income $77,000 or less
• 2028 (taxes payable 2029): Household income $79,000 or less
Household income includes the combined income of all individuals living in the home as their primary residence.
Senior Freeze eligibility:
✔️ Age 65 or older
✔️ Own and occupy the home as your primary residence
✔️ Meet income limits
✔️ Apply every year
📄 Important Reminder:
➡️ Senior Freeze application forms will be available in April. If you applied in 2025, your renewal will be mailed to you!
Early preparation is encouraged so you’re ready when filing opens.
