Crewe Fireplugs

Crewe Fireplugs This page has been established as a way to document the wonderful and interesting painted fire hydrants around the town of Crewe, Va.

Welcome to Crewe Fireplugs! To comply with National Fire Protection Association standards, the hydrants will soon be repainted to meet the recommended color code for each hydrant type. Help to create a photo-documentation of as many of these hydrants as possible by posting your photos of these hydrants to this page. Perhaps there is a hydrant near your home or workplace. Maybe you've come across a

n interesting hydrant while out for a stroll or jog around the town of Crewe. Whatever the case, whip-out your camera, snap a few pics, and post them to this page. Whenever possible, make a note in the photo's description of where a particular hydrant is located. Spread the word, share this page, and invite others to participate. Don't allow this colorful aspect of Crewe history to be lost. Since some of the hydrants are along a busy roadway without a sidewalk, please don't sacrifice your safety or take unnecessary risk. Have fun out there and please, please be safe!

***************** UPDATE 10/16/2019 *****************

Well, it has begun. Hydrants around the Town of Crewe are being updated with color coded paint schemes to comply
with National Fire Protection Association standards. Although it is sad to see the loss of those wonderful examples of hydrant art, we understand that it is necessary for the better efficiency of the Crewe Volunteer Fire Department in recognizing hydrant capacity and keeping the town safer. Fortunately, there are still opportunities to photograph the many depictions of hydrant art that have yet to be repainted. So, get those cameras out and send us your pics.

Thank you to Dodger Harrison for the contribution of the hydrant repaint photos.

According to Crewe Vice Mayor, Anne Stinson, the town still plans to have its fire hydrants repainted. The intention is to have the hydrants repainted as characters.

Crewe Fireplugs is looking forward to seeing the new artwork on the town's fire hydrants and still welcomes the contributions of photos documenting the existing fire hydrant art. Remember to be safe out there and don't forget to share this page with friends.
