Memorial Day is a time to honor and remember the brave men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. It is a day to reflect on the freedoms we enjoy and the sacrifices made to protect them. “If you want to thank a soldier, be the kind of American worth fighting for.”

As we approach our municipal, state, and federal elections, we want to remind our community that stealing or vandalizing political signs is a violation of Maryland law. The freedom to express one's political opinions is a fundamental right in our country, and such criminal acts will not be tolerated. Theft, criminal trespass, and malicious destruction of property can result in imprisonment and fines.

We've seen social media posts from community members stating that signs are missing or defaced, but we have not received a complaint yet. We encourage you to contact us if this is the case.

The incident on Myrtle Street has been resolved and there is no threat to our community.

This evening, at approximately 11:15 p.m., the Crisfield Police Department, along with surrounding law enforcement agencies, responded to an address on Myrtle Street for an individual suffering from a mental health crisis and threatening to harm himself with a knife. The individual had locked himself inside the bathroom of the residence. The subject was talked out of the bathroom and taken into custody without incident.

Our agency is grateful for the Somerset County Sheriff's Office, Maryland State Police, and the Princess Anne Police Department for their assistance.
