CROMWELL CITY COUNCIL MEETING
May 11, 2026
Cromwell City Council met May 11, 2026, at 5:15pm with Mayor Curt Angell presiding. In addition to Angell, those in attendance were council members Robert Hepp, Judy Hopkins, Jacob McGehee, Tonya Rehmeyer and Dylan McVay, City Administrator/Clerk Stephani Finley and guests Bob Marquart, and Vicki Hepp.
Angell called the meeting to order at 5:15 pm.
Hepp made a motion to approve the agenda. McGehee seconded. All voted aye. Motion passed.
Hopkins made a motion to accept the minutes of the April 13 regular meeting. Rehmeyer seconded. All voted aye. Motion passed.
Monthly Bills and Receipts as presented:
Hepp made a motion to approve the May claims of $2,187.16 for Alliant Energy $527.95 streetlights and facility electricity, SIRWA $148.77 water for city hall, and park fee to reconnect, Stephani Finley $50 phone/internet, Robert Hepp $221.64 wages for mowing and $39.00 fuel for mower, Bomgaars $41.97 park supplies, Woody’s Lawncare $200 lawn treatment, Schildberg Construction $816.16 gravel for streets, Union County Treasurer $17 to clear title for donated property and Roger Millslagle $124.68 wages for street work. McVay seconded. All voted aye. Motion passed.
McGehee made a motion to approve the receipts and financial statements. Rehmeyer seconded. All voted aye. Motion passed.
New business: Marquart addressed the council regarding street repairs and culverts. He pointed out specific areas that need to be looked at. McGehee said some of those concerns are being addressed. He will see what needs to be done in other areas.
The possibility of of dust control around the park was considered. McGehee said he calculated the cost would be $450 for an application. McVay made a motion to proceed with application of dust control product around the park. Rehmeyer seconded. All voted aye. Motion passed. McGehee will make arrangements before Harvest Fest in September.
Reports:
Streets: McGehee said he will be looking into whether it would be more cost effective to rent a machine to do culverts or hire a contractor.
PARK: The city received a letter from Woodys Lawncare that lawn treatment will not be conducted starting May 11, 2026, until further notice due to a health issue. Hepp will look into a temporary service for the park. Finley will post a request on Facebook.
Admin/Clerk: Finley said four applications were received for the position of city administrator/clerk. Interviews will be conducted following the meeting.
Special meetings for January:
Angell – April 8, Prairie Solid Waste Agency
Hopkins – April 15, Emergency Management
Old Business: nuisance property concerns were updated. McGehee said the property own of the house and surrounding yard in the 1100 block of Lincoln was contacted and that will be taken care of. McVay said the old bank building on Broadway has a new owner who has been inside and will be working on the property.
HEPP made a motion to set the next council meeting 5:30 pm, Monday June 8. McGehee seconded. All voted aye. Motion passed.
Being no further business, Angell called for adjournment. McGehee made a motion for the meeting to adjourn. Hepp seconded. All voted aye. Motion passed
Meeting adjourned at 5:50 pm.
The City Council will meet Monday, June 8, 2026, 5:30 pm in City Hall.
Hopkins, Rehmeyer, Finley and Angell stayed to conduct interviews for the job opening of city administrator/clerk. Guest Vicki Hepp remained to be interviewed. All others present left the building.
