“Medicaid and Medicare transports have a contractual allowance — a reimbursement cap where more than half the cost gets written off, leaving less than half to be paid through patient copays and the government check. He showed an example of an approximately $950 bill, where Medicaid would write off $584 and Medicare would write off $617.”

We see this in Divide County more often than not. On average, over 60% of billed charges are written off by insurance.

With closures and understaffed services, some areas are seeing two-to four-hour waits for an ambulance to arrive.

Help is available through the North Dakota Department of Human Services for those impacted by the extended power outage in northwest North Dakota following the April 22-23 blizzard and ice storm.

As utility companies continue to work overtime to restore power to customers, this assistance can provide a measure of relief for eligible renters and homeowners who have needed to run generators or rent hotel rooms until service is restored.

UPDATE: As of 8:30 pm Friday, MDU had restored power to all but 49 customers in three towns — Zahl, Appam and Hanks. — The Journal

(As of Sunday evening) The latest word from MDU is not good. Expect towns like Crosby to be out until the end of the week. Per their spokesman moments ago:

“The area north of Williston is the hardest hit. We still don’t have a full picture because the airplane couldn’t go up this morning because of freezing concerns. It will go up Monday morning and we’ll get a look at the lines our crews could not view from the ground. With what we know as of tonight, Grenora, Zahl, Crosby, Powers Lake, McGregor and Wildrose will likely be out until the end of the week. Ambrose could be out for up to two weeks.

“The damage we have assessed so far is unprecedented. It’s the worst damage Montana-Dakota Utilities has had on its system. We have hundreds of crossarms broken and miles of poles down. The 9-mile line from Crosby to Ambrose will basically be new construction. We’ll have 15 crews (3 to 4 people per crew, so 45 to 60 people) in the area this coming week. If the aerial survey shows more damage than anticipated, we will bring in additional crews.”
