🚨TECHNICAL ROPE RESCUE🚨

Cross City Fire Department was requested for mutual aid by Dixie County Fire Rescue yesterday to a unique and challenging incident involving a dog trapped in a dried up spring/sinkhole, taking the lead on what became the department’s first ever technical rope rescue.

Upon arrival, crews located the dog approximately 40 feet down within a cavern system inside the spring. Recognizing the complexity of the situation, responders conducted a thorough assessment and developed a safe, effective rescue plan. Utilizing specialized rope rescue equipment and techniques, personnel carefully accessed the space and successfully retrieved the animal.

Dixie County Fire Rescue units assisted on scene, working alongside our team to ensure a smooth and coordinated operation.

Thanks to the professionalism, teamwork, and technical precision of all crews involved, the dog was safely rescued without injury. Outstanding work by everyone on scene this was a great example of interagency cooperation and dedication to service.

• Refrain from all outdoor burning, including yard debris and campfires
• Properly dispose of ci******es and other flammable materials

We will continuously monitor conditions as they change and provide updates as needed. Thank you for your cooperation in helping keep our community safe. 🚒

🚨 Public Safety Notice: Large Brush Fire in the Area 🚨

Cross City Fire Department is currently working alongside Dixie County Fire Rescue and the Department of Forestry to contain a large brush fire. Multiple crews are actively on scene working to bring the fire under control.

Residents and motorists are advised to use extreme caution when traveling near the affected areas. Smoke may reduce visibility on roadways, and emergency vehicles will be entering and exiting the scene. 🚒🚓 Cross City Public Safety Facility Update 🇺🇸

The Town of Cross City, alongside the Cross City Fire Department and Cross City Police Department, was honored to receive a $415,000 ceremonial check from Florida CFO Blaise Ingoglia to support the future Cross City Public Safety Facility.

Awarded through the 2025–2026 State Appropriations (Specific Appropriation #2178), this funding supports Phase I: planning and design of a new 10,000-square-foot facility that will serve as a centralized headquarters for Fire, Police, and Public Works, located next to City Hall.

The project design is underway by Locklear and Associates Engineering. This facility will improve response times, strengthen inter-department communication, and better serve Cross City’s growing community, while also supporting Dixie County through mutual aid and emergency operations.

Phase II funding has been requested for the 2026–2027 budget cycle to move the project into construction.

We’re grateful for the state’s support as we take this important step toward a safer, stronger Cross City. 💙
