Two wanted individuals are behind bars following a coordinated effort by multiple law enforcement agencies in Dixie County.

Dixie County Sheriff’s Office deputies initiated an attempt to serve felony warrants with assistance from the Cross City Police Department Drone Team, the Cross City Correctional Institution K-9 Team, and the Taylor Correctional Institution K-9 Team.

Upon arrival, Ernest Edward Holifield fled on foot into a wooded area. Responding units tracked him through the woods and ultimately located him hiding in thick brush. During the operation, deputies also located Christopher Alan Holifield, who had barricaded himself inside a fifth-wheel camper. He was subsequently taken into custody and charged with Resisting an Officer in addition to his outstanding warrant for Violation of Probation.

The Dixie County Sheriff’s Office extends its appreciation to the Cross City Police Department Drone Team, the Cross City Correctional Institution K-9 Team, and the Taylor Correctional Institution K-9 Team for their assistance and continued partnership. Their willingness to respond and assist plays a vital role in helping keep our community safe.

What an incredible day for our Tri‑County seniors. Haven Hospice of Chiefland hosted a powerful event yesterday focused on preventing fraud and protecting the elders of Dixie, Gilchrist, and Levy Counties. Our Sheriffs, Judges, and the State Attorney’s Office came together for an open, honest panel discussion about the scams we’re seeing far too often in our rural communities.

Senior Medicare Patrol, Elder Options, and Seniors vs. Crime were also available to guide, support, and answer questions. Their presence made a real difference.

With crimes against the elderly on the rise, this event was not just helpful—it was necessary. Thanks to everyone who poured their time and heart into this effort. Our seniors walked away feeling stronger, safer, and more prepared to face the challenges scammers bring.

The Dixie County Sheriff’s Office arrested Jose Javier Quinones on May 19, 2026, following a traffic stop in Old Town.

At approximately 9:50 a.m., a DCSO deputy observed Quinones as a passenger in a vehicle while conducting patrol in the area of G&T Convenient Store. The deputy had prior knowledge of two active local felony warrants for Quinones and initiated a traffic stop. Dixie County Dispatch confirmed both warrants as active.

The Cross City Department of Corrections K9 Team was also present on scene; however, no K9 deployment occurred during the encounter. We appreciate their continued partnership and willingness to assist our deputies whenever needed.

Memorial Day is more than the start of summer — it is a time to remember the heroes who never made it home.

Today, the Dixie County Sheriff’s Office honors the brave men and women of our armed forces who gave their lives in service to our country and our freedoms.

Their sacrifice will never be forgotten, and we remain forever grateful to the families who continue to carry that loss each day.

As we gather with family and friends this Memorial Day, may we all take a moment to reflect on the true cost of freedom.

We remember.
We honor.
We thank you. 🇺🇸

We have received multiple reports of individuals impersonating the Dixie County Sheriff’s Office and calling members of our community, claiming they have warrants and demanding credit card payments or money to “stay out of jail.”

⚠️ This is a SCAM.

The Dixie County Sheriff’s Office will NEVER:
• Call and demand payment over the phone
• Ask for credit card numbers, gift cards, or electronic payments
• Offer to clear warrants or keep you out of jail in exchange for money

Unfortunately, people are falling victim to this and losing their hard-earned money.

If you receive a call like this:
❌ Hang up immediately
❌ Do not provide any personal or financial information
❌ Report the call to the Dixie County Sheriff’s Office

Please help us spread the word by sharing this post, especially with elderly family members and anyone who may be more vulnerable to phone scams. Stay alert and don’t let scammers take advantage of you.
