" Have you typed a text or email today? Chances are, you’re using a keyboard layout with roots right here in Wisconsin!
In 1867, Milwaukee inventor Christopher Latham Sholes developed the first practical typewriter in a local workshop. The familiar QWERTY keyboard layout he helped create has remained virtually unchanged for nearly 160 years.
Sholes patented his typewriter on August 27, 1878. And here’s a fun fact: the original machine didn’t have a shift key. It could only type capital letters!

An invite from Wisconsin Department of Health Services Division of Care and Treatment Services: Celebrating 50 Years of Client Rights in Wisconsin

You’re invited to join us next week as we celebrate 50 years of client rights in Wisconsin.

Wisconsin’s client rights laws for people receiving services for a developmental disability, mental health challenge, and/or substance use disorder took effect September 4, 1976. Fifty years later we are recognizing the work and cooperation between lawmakers, experts, advocates, and providers to establish client rights and the tireless efforts since to promote and protect them.

August 31-September 4 is Client Rights Awareness Week

Governor Tony Evers has declared August 31-September 4 as Client Rights Awareness Week throughout Wisconsin in recognition of the importance of treating people receiving services for a developmental disability, mental health challenge, and/or substance use disorder with dignity and respect.
