Four apparatus from Company 1, comprising Engines 811 and 812, Tanker 813, and Brush 814, responded to two brush fires in the same general vicinity. Upon arrival, Brush 814 notified incoming units that the fire had self-extinguished and they were holding the scene. However, the crews were unaware that the actual fire was burning approximately half a mile down the road. Fortunately, a passerby informed the team of the fire's location, preventing them from clearing the scene and returning to service. This incident underscores the significance of community involvement, and we are grateful for the community we serve. If you see something, say something. Four apparatus and 10 members operated for approximately two hours before returning to service.

Holiday meals mean more time in the kitchen. 🍳🎄

Always keep a lid nearby when cooking. If a small grease fire starts, slide the lid over the pan and turn off the burner.

Special weather announcement: As many of you are aware, widespread rainfall is expected over the next couple of days. We encourage the following precautions:

Wipers on = headlights on; it's the law.

Shut off distractions (cell phones).

Avoid driving in rain ruts if possible to do so safely.

Cars, mid-size pickups, and other lightweight vehicles should avoid high speeds during rainy and wet conditions.

Know the speed limit for the road/street you're on and travel 5 mph under posted speed limits, especially reducing speeds at night.

In the event you're involved in an accident, if possible, move your vehicle to the shoulder of the road, ensure flashers are on, and that your point of escape or exit is operational. Remain in your vehicle until first responders or a tow truck arrives.

We hope these tips will help keep yourself and others safe. - UFP8VFD Members
