just 90 minutes east of nashville, cumberland county is packed with unreal views, hidden waterfalls, unique stays, incredible food and way less traffic than the usual weekend destinations.

from standing above the largest sinkhole in north america at black mountain overlook, to swimming beneath the 110-foot drop at ozone falls, this is the kind of place that makes you wonder why you haven’t been here yet.

On July 4, 2026 our country will celebrate its 250th anniversary. On July 8, 1776 the Declaration of Independence was read aloud to the public for the very first time.

In honor of that first public reading, join us on the courthouse steps Wednesday, July 8 at 6:00 pm for a reading of the declaration in its entirety by Cumberland County Mayor Allen Foster.

The Upper Cumberland Development District is asking members of our community to shoot short video clips on their smartphones (10 seconds max) reading the declaration, and share the content with UCDD in order for a video time capsule to be created of the Upper Cumberland, the finished video will then be shared with anyone who participated.
