A huge thank you to the Serve Strong: Corban Scott Goad Memorial Foundation for bringing the First Responders Resilience Summit to Crossville and investing in those who serve our communities every day.

First responders spend our careers taking care of others, but events like this remind us of the importance of taking care of ourselves and each other. The work we do is rewarding, but it also comes with challenges that are often unseen. The speakers, conversations, and shared experiences throughout the day provided valuable insight into resilience, mental wellness, peer support, and the long-term health of those who answer the call to serve.

Cumberland County EMS was honored to join first responders from across the region for a day of learning, connection, and encouragement. We are grateful to the speakers, organizers, volunteers, and sponsors who made this event possible, and especially to Serve Strong for their continued commitment to supporting first responders both on and off the job.

Thank you for supporting the people behind the badge, uniform, headset, and turnout gear. Together, we are building stronger, healthier, and more resilient first responders. 💪🏻

Cumberland County EMS had the honor of recognizing three members of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office for their extraordinary actions that helped save the life of a local resident following a traumatic chainsaw accident.

Deputy Josh Alderman, Deputy Chris Page, and Sergeant Ryan Ashburn were presented with
lifesaving awards after their quick response and decisive actions prevented a tragic outcome
during a recent emergency call involving a severe arterial bleed.

According to officials, the patient sustained a serious injury from a chainsaw accident that
resulted in life-threatening bleeding. Deputies arrived on scene prior to EMS and immediately
began providing emergency medical care. Utilizing medical equipment carried in their patrol
vehicles, the deputies were able to control the bleeding before EMS crews arrived on scene.
Their rapid intervention is credited with saving the patient’s life.

Sergeant Ryan Ashburn and Deputy Chris Page both hold Emergency Medical Responder
certifications, and their medical training, combined with the preparedness and teamwork
displayed by all three deputies, proved critical during the emergency.

Cumberland County EMS Director Chris Miller stated that the actions of these deputies
demonstrate the importance of interagency cooperation, training, and preparedness in
emergency situations. He noted that the ability for law enforcement officers to begin lifesaving
care in those first critical moments can make all the difference in patient outcomes.

Pictured are the responding EMS crew members, the honored deputies, the patient whose life
was saved through their efforts, and a representative from Life Force.

Cumberland County EMS extends its appreciation to Deputy Alderman, Deputy Page, and Sergeant Ashburn for their professionalism, quick thinking, and commitment to serving the
citizens of Cumberland County.
