Taran comes to us with extensive trail-building experience through Southeast Conservation Corps, and he's already hard at work helping us expand volunteer opportunities on the Cumberland Trail.

Whether you're a longtime volunteer or looking for your first trail workday, you'll probably be seeing a lot more of Taran out on the trail.

The Cumberland Trail is built by people who care deeply about creating lasting outdoor experiences, and today we're proud to recognize two of those individuals.

Congratulations to Dylan Reid, promoted to Crew Supervisor, and Justin Justice, promoted to Crew Lead! Their dedication, craftsmanship, and leadership have made a lasting impact on the Cumberland Trail and the hikers who enjoy it every day.

✨ Trail Crew Spotlight: Caroline ✨

Meet Caroline, who has been helping build the Cumberland Trail for nearly 2 years! Caroline brings plenty of enthusiasm, hard work, and an impressive ability to find the perfect rock shim on the first try.

Her favorite stretch of trail is Piney 4 - the section just beyond the Piney suspension bridge where she first started working with the CTC. One of her proudest accomplishments has been hiking all 13 miles of Upper Piney and seeing firsthand how the crew's work has transformed the trail.

Whether she's building trail with her favorite tool (her hands) or snacking on pickles, Caroline loves being outdoors and watching the trail evolve day by day. More than anything, she hopes hikers can enjoy the scenery without having to spend the whole hike watching their footing.

New trail page update! 🥾

We've added a detailed description of the Upper Piney section to our website, along with photos to help hikers get a better feel for this beautiful stretch of the Cumberland Trail.

A special thank you to Ron Hees for sharing a write-up and photos of the section. Contributions like these help us expand the information available to hikers and showcase the unique places that make up the Cumberland Trail.

Some progress in Morgan County from the past week. No rocks, no bridges, no technical features, just a simple dirt path. Sometimes the most satisfying work isn't the flashiest. It's creating a trail that feels like it's always belonged there.
