Washington Engine Company No. 2

Washington Engine Company No. 2 One of five all-volunteer fire companies within the Croton Volunteer Fire Department. We are the largest of the companies, featuring nearly 50 active members.

Organized in 1892, we have remained 100% volunteer, just like the other four fire companies in the Croton Fire Department.

Late Wednesday evening, the Croton FD was called for a vehicle driven into the Croton River where it meets the Hudson River near Croton-Harmon Train Station.

WECO members - responding with Engine 119, Utility 14 and Marine 32 - worked together to put personnel in the water to confirm no additional occupants were in the car, then used the winch on U14 to bring the car back on to land.

The driver was evaluated and transported by Croton EMS to an area hospital.

Lt. Gallagher, along with Firefighters Cohen, Eng & Laemmel assisted with winching the vehicle out of the water, while Captain Munson and FF/EMT Ingalls “suited up” and entered the river.

Strong work by all on scene, including members of the Department’s other Companies, to handle this incident safely and efficiently.

Memorial Day Recap 🇺🇸

Members of Washington Engine Company No. 2 continued our annual Memorial Day Breakfast & Memorial Service today.

Our in-house chefs whipped up a delicious breakfast for all in attendance. Following this, we conducted our annual remembrance service to honor those lost in combat, but especially those that hailed from our Company.

As members were getting ready to attend the Village of Croton’s Memorial Day Ceremony, E119 & U14 took in a Residential Fire Alarm on Grand Street. Because of this, many of us had to swap our dress uniforms for a combined uniform / fire duty appearance.

At the conclusion of the Village Ceremony, Engine 119 was dispatched to neighboring Montrose Fire District for a house fire. Our members operated for about one hour before being returned to service.

To all of those that enlisted to serve our nation and never made it home - God bless you and your sacrifices will never be forgotten.

Members of WECO spent St. Patrick’s Day taking care of the usual Monday night business.

The rigs were checked, fluids topped off, new members went over donning PPE and the crew took to Kaplan’s Pond for some hose line work.

Nice job Bryce, Xan, Ryan, JJ & Anirudh working with Engineer Joe, Lt. Matt & the Captain - keep it up.

Earlier today, members of Washington Engine Company No. 2 paid our respects to the Department’s Senior Man, Past Chief Anthony Gagliotti. The Chief served this department for nearly 75 years and was a proud, constant part of his beloved Columbian Hook & Ladder Company No. 1.

On behalf of the Officers and Members of WECO, we extend our heartfelt condolences to our brothers and sisters at Tower Ladder 44. “Hot Ton” was one of the best and will be missed by all.
