Last night, the Winfield Township Republican Party held our first of two Candidate Forums for the Primary Election. It was our pleasure to host Barb Regnitz and Jim Schenke for Indiana’s First Congressional District, as well as State Senator Rick Niemeyer and James “Jay” Starkey for Indiana’s 6th State Senate District. We also had the opportunity to hear from Nathan Roberts from Turning Point Action and Chuck Messler for Lake County Auditor. Thank you to everyone who joined us for this month’s meeting! We look forward to seeing everyone next month for our Local (County, Town, and Township) Candidates Forum.

Earlier this week, I had the honor of filing for re-election as your Winfield Township Trustee. As I have been reflecting on the last few years, I have been awestruck by what we have been able to accomplish together. Upon entering the office, I took the opportunity to zero-sum the budget, rebuild it dollar by dollar, and refocuse it on providing high-quality services to our residents. Now, three years later I am honored to report that, since January 1st, 2023:

✅Winfield Township has disbursed more than $119,680.00 in financial assistance for residents struggling to pay for basic necessities like utilitiy bills, housing, and funeral expenses;

✅the Winfield Township Food Pantry has provided members of our community with almost 63,000 lbs of food, with a total market value of $176,905.00, while spending less than $20,000.00 to fund the program (which is a 784.5% return on investment); and

✅the Township has made more than $2.1 million in investments into the Lakes of the Four Seasons Fire Force in order to improve firefighting and emergency medical services for our growing community.

It is for these reasons and many more that I humbly ask for your support for a second term as the Winfield Township Trustee. As has already been said, we have accomplished many things together in the last three years, but so much more remains. With your help, I know we can continue to make Winfield Township one of the best places to live in Northwest Indiana!

It’s great to see that our local leaders can still succeed where our national leaders can’t. Clearly, the government that governs best still is that which is closest to the people. Congratulations on a solid budget Winfield Township!

🚨📜 Winfield Township Adopts 2026 Budget 📜🚨

On Monday, September 29th, 2025, the Winfield Township Board unanimously adopted the proposed Township budget for Calendar Year 2026. All told, Winfield Township’s 2026 budget totals $970,601.00, a 4.1% increase over the current year. Notable features of next year’s budget include:

- More than $68,000.00 in additional funding for firefighting and emergency medical services, which should enable the Lakes of the Four Seasons Volunteer Fire Force to staff a fourth, part-time position per shift and thereby improve the delivery of services and decrease wait times during emergencies;

- $32,500.00 for our Township Assistance program, which provides support for families-in-need by helping to pay mortgage, rent, utility, and other bills for household necessities;

-$24,700.00 to support Township parks and community recreational activities, which represents a nearly 18% increase in funding. Part of these funds will be used to restore approximately 3 acres of Township property with native trees, shrubs, and grasses for public enjoyment and education.

Even with the increases listed above, the 2026 Budget promotes sound fiscal policy and protects taxpayers’ hard-earned dollars. Over the next year, the Township will accrue more than $165,000.00 in intentional savings. These cash balances act as a financial reserve for the Township and enable future capital purchases, such as land, building improvements, as well as fire and ems equipment and apparatus. Overall, the 2026 Budget is a testament to the Township Board and Trustee’s continued prioritization of funding for those programs which provide direct services to residents. Our goal is to make Township government work for YOU!

Winfield Township is home to two memorials of foreign wars: the Vietnam War Memorial, located within Stoney Run County Park, and the Korean War Memorial located just off of Route 231. It is a privilege and duty to honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our freedoms.

On Episode 5 of the Region Republicans Radio Show and Podcast, I joined the host, Bob Starkey, and fellow guests Mike Neal and Tim Vassar to talk about several new state laws that were passed during the last legislative session. Senate Bill 1 (the property tax bill), Senate Bill 287 (partisan election of school board members), and House Bill 1461 (road funding and interstate rolling), are all on the table. We delve into how these new laws will impact you, your pocketbook, your communities, and your schools. Check it out via one of the links below!
