Nine new lung illnesses that would be reclassified as PRESUMED to be connected to burn pit exposure during military service: asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, chronic bronchitis, constrictive bronchiolitis, emphysema, pleuritis, pulmonary fibrosis, interstitial lung disease and sarcoidosis.

In addition, eligible veterans who are diagnosed with any form of respiratory cancer or glioblastoma (brain cancer) would also be granted presumptive benefits status.

Under the TCRW Act, that eligible group would include all veterans who served in the following locations:

— in Iraq from August 1990 to March 1991 and from March 2003 until present day;
— in Afghanistan from September 2001 until present day;

— in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Oman and Qatar from August 1990 until present day;

— in Djibouti, Syria, Jordan, Egypt, Lebanon and Yemen from September 2001 until present day;

CPT James Ahn Memorial Scholarship

CPT James Ahn Special Forces Memorial Scholarship.

Captain James Ahn, a graduate of UC Riverside and the Claremont McKenna College Army ROTC program, died in 2015 during a parachute training operation while participating with his Special Forces unit in Washington State.

For all of us who knew and loved James, he will never be forgotten. He was the consummate person and professional who was respected by everyone he came in contact with.

In James’ honor, we are sponsoring an annual scholarship of $1,000 to a Special Forces Veteran who is working towards the completion of a higher education degree.

The Johnny Isakson and David P. Roe, M.D. Veterans Health Care and Benefits Improvement Act of 2020 signed into law on January 5, 2021, required VA to reinstitute the public use Disability Benefits Questionnaires (DBQs) and publish them on VA’s website. In compliance with this Act, the public facing DBQs have been published and were made available March 1, 2021, at the following link:
https://www.benefits.va.gov/compensation/dbq_publicdbqs.asp

Public-use DBQ forms are intended to be completed by the Veteran’s medical provider. Veterans and those representing them can then submit the DBQ(s) in conjunction with the claim for processing. If there is enough medical evidence within the completed DBQ(s), it may serve in lieu of an examination. However, there will be instances for which an in-person exam is still needed to complete the claim.

VA will not pay or reimburse any expenses or costs incurred in the process of completing and/or submitting DBQs completed by the Veteran’s healthcare provider.

Apply for and manage the VA benefits and services you’ve earned as a Veteran, Servicemember, or family member—like health care, disability, education, and more.

Since the Covid-19 pandemic began the Lake County VSO has continued to provided services on an appointment only basis. We had a mandated shut down period our office to reevaluate how we were going to continue to process claims. Our office like many others has had to adjust how we are operating based on the current CDC guidelines and recommendations from the Lake County Health Department.

Even though we have had to take precautionary measures for our office staff, went through a stay at home order, our Staff managed to provided services to almost 800 Veterans since reopening in May.

We will continue to operate on an appointment only basis. You can call our office with any questions.

Today is good as any other to make this announcement.

After 77 years and the VA denying the proper marking of a Veterans final resting place, it's done, the headstone has made it to the cemetery.
Rest easy Shipmate, others may have gave up on you in life however, in death your actions and service are not forgotten.

Medal Of Honor Citation
For extraordinary heroism while serving on board the Mohawk in performing a rescue mission aboard the schooner Hjeltenaes which was in flames on 1 November 1918. Going aboard the blazing vessel, Siegel rescued 2 men from the crew's quarters and went back the third time. Immediately after he had entered the crew's quarters, a steam pipe over the door bursted, making it impossible for him to escape. Siegel was overcome with smoke and fell to the deck, being finally rescued by some of the crew of the Mohawk who carried him out and rendered first aid.

AWARDED

VA.gov | Veterans Affairs

In testimony before the House Appropriations Committee on Wednesday, VA Secretary Robert Wilkie hailed the new caregiver rules as an important step forward for the department in the effort to provide the best care for all veterans.

But the new rules do not specify a specific start point when the new rules will take effect, noting that “the timeline for development of an information technology system can be unpredictable.”

Veterans who separated from the military between 1975 and 2001 will be added to the program two years after the pre-1975 group. That means those families will likely have to wait until fall 2022 for access to the program, if not longer.

A new law, signed by President Donald Trump this month, will make veterans eligible to participate in certain programs from the National Science Foundation, a move designed to introduce more vets to jobs in science and technology.

The law, known as the Supporting Veterans In STEM Careers Act, extends to veterans specific NSF scholarship and fellowship programs and different kinds of grants. It took effect Feb. 11.

VA disputes science panel’s findings on proposed Agent Orange diseases; decision not expected until late 2020

The VA’s latest report and Secretary Wilkie’s choice to further delay his decision to add four conditions to the list of Agent Orange presumptive diseases. The medical evidence reviewed by scientists at the National Academies for Sciences, Engineering and Medicine is clear, and has been for some time.

This should not be a question of cost, it should be about justice and taking care of the hundreds of thousands of veterans who have suffered the adverse health effects of toxic exposure during their military service. The VA has had adequate time and sufficient scientific evidence to make a determination and to ensure veterans get the healthcare and benefits they need.

It is time to end the wait.

VA maintains it will wait for the outcome of two studies before rendering a decision on new Agent Orange benefits
