Fire danger is high, especially during the afternoon and evening hours. Fires can start almost immediately and easily from all causes. Fires can spread rapidly and intensify quickly. Spot fires can be a constant danger.

Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged.

Spread prevention, not wildfire.

As spring arrives in Ashe County, the Ashe County Emergency Management and the Ashe County Fire Marshal’s Office want to remind residents that spring wildfire season is underway across North Carolina.

During late winter and early spring, dry vegetation, gusty winds, and lower humidity levels create conditions where fires can spread quickly. Even a small outdoor fire can escape control and threaten homes, property, and nearby forests.

Spring wildfire season typically lasts until vegetation begins to green up, but conditions can remain dangerous when dry weather persists.

If you see a wildfire or an outdoor fire that is getting out of control, call 911 immediately.

Working together, the residents of Ashe County can help prevent wildfires and protect our communities, firefighters, and natural resources.
