Press Release: Resolution of The State of Texas v. Victor Hugo Jimenez
Sheriff Eusevio E. Salinas Jr. issued the following statement regarding the successful resolution of The State of Texas v. Victor Hugo Jimenez:
"My office is committed to protecting our community and working with our state and federal partners to investigate violations of law. The Zavala County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with the 293rd Judicial District Attorney’s Office, worked diligently to ensure that this individual was held accountable."
Sheriff Salinas added:
"I would like to commend all involved in this case and extend my sincere appreciation to the Jury for their service and for hearing the evidence presented."

Zavala County Jury Finds Victor Hugo Jimenez Guilty and Sentences him to 15 years in prison.
On November 13th, 2025, a Zavala County Jury found Victor Hugo Jimenez Guilty of Smuggling of Persons with Intent to Obtain a Pecuniary Benefit following a two day trial. The case was Prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Roxanne Soheyla Meraji and Chief Assistant District Attorney Hugo Zapata with the 293rd Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
The charges stem from April 5th, 2022 when a Zavala County Sheriff’s Department Investigator conducted a traffic stop for an obscured license plate. The investigator then Mirandized and questioned the defendant to which the defendant admitted to getting paid for transporting two individuals to San Antonio, Texas.
After reviewing the evidence the jury unanimously found the defendant, Victor Hugo Jimenez guilty beyond a reasonable doubt and sentenced him to 15 years in prison.
The achievement could not have been done without the help of the Zavala County Sheriff’s office and 293rd Judicial District Attorneys Office Investigators Humberto Gutierrez and Richard Guzman.
