PUBLIC SAFETY ANNOUNCEMENT
CITY OF CRYSTAL FALLS
The City of Crystal Falls is warning residents about telephone scams involving individuals who falsely claim to represent the City of Crystal Falls Police Department, the FBI, or the U.S. Marshals Service.
These law enforcement agencies will never call you to demand or solicit money, and they will never instruct you to purchase gift cards of any kind. Legitimate agencies will not threaten you with arrest or other legal action if you refuse to make an immediate payment.
If you receive a suspicious call:
• Do not provide personal or financial information.
• Do not purchase gift cards or provide gift card numbers.
• Do not send money or make any payment.
• Hang up immediately.
• Contact the agency directly using a verified telephone number—not a number provided by the caller.
Please remember that caller ID information can be falsified. A call may appear to come from a legitimate government agency even when it does not.
Residents are encouraged to share this warning with family members, friends, and neighbors, especially older adults who may be targeted by scammers. If you believe you have received a fraudulent call or have been the victim of a scam, contact the City of Crystal Falls Police Department.
Stay alert and never send money or gift cards in response to an unsolicited telephone call.
