Helping Us Grow (HUG) is a FREE home visiting program that serves families with children birth to three, as well as pregnant women who are experiencing life stressors in McHenry County.

07/14/2022

The Helping Us Grow Program believes that parents are their child's first and most important teachers. Children are born into this world ready to learn, but do not come with directions. Parenting is hard! As a Family Support Specialist you will work directly with families, supporting them as they navigate the difficult task of raising young children. The goals of the program is to increase parents knowledge of child development, provide early detection of developmental delays or health concerns through screening tools, increase the child's school readiness and success, and reduce the risk of abuse and neglect. During the weekly or biweekly visits with families you will focus on 3 areas with the families: child development, family wellness, and parent-child interactions.

This position is full time (37. 5 hours a week), M-F with flexible hours. Applicants must have a bachelors degree. Travel around McHenry County is required, and mileage is reimbursed. We are currently "seeing" families through virtual video or phone calls due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

We believe in a world where all children can reach their full potential and humanity — and do so in celebration of every aspect of their identity. That's why we work to help little ones not only build self-confidence, but support others as an upstander.
