Last week, Members of the MCCG Executive Committee traveled to Springfield to share the 2026 MCCG Legislative and Transportation Priorities. The MCCG talked about the loss of local control for solar facilities, FOIA reform and the Local Government Distributive Fund (LGDF). The MCCG was surprised to hear the Governor present a series of bills to address housing shortages and affordability. The Building Up Illinois Developments (BUILD) program would preempt local authority for zoning standards and legalize accessory dwelling units, among other proposals. We believe municipalities, through their comprehensive plans, are best suited to make housing decisions in the best interest of their residents. The MCCG will work with legislators and partner agencies to maintain local authority for housing regulations and decisions.

The MCCG and McHenry County lost a fantastic leader yesterday. President Schmitt’s dedication to the Village of Algonquin and the MCCG was unwavering. He will truly be missed.

Due to the recent Coronavirus news in McHenry County, the MCCG March Membership Meeting scheduled for Wednesday, March 18, 2020 at Biaggi's has been canceled. We look forward to seeing everyone at Avante Banquets for the MCCG Annual Meeting on Wednesday, April 22, 2020.
