We’re honored to have been selected to participate in a national research initiative focused on strengthening student mental health and well-being in schools. As the only school district in McHenry County chosen for this opportunity, we’re excited for the direct impact this work will have on our elementary students.

This partnership will help bring additional support systems and resources into the school day to support both student wellness and academic success. We’re grateful to work alongside the Lake County Regional Office of Education #34, Midwest PBIS Network, Center for Emotional Wellness of the Northwest Suburbs, and NAMI of McHenry County as this important work begins.

Day one of the ISF-SHINE Cohort 1 training is officially in the books! It was great to have everyone gathered in the same room to get this work started.

For context, ISF-SHINE (School Health and Interventions for Nurturing Excellence) is a five-year federal Education Innovation and Research (EIR) grant. The whole goal is to transform student well-being and academic success by integrating mental health services directly into the school day, blending PBIS and MTSS data and practices into one cohesive system.

There is a lot of intentional systems-building ahead of us, but seeing the energy from these teams on day one makes the journey exciting.

A massive thank you to our Cohort 1 partners for showing up ready to dive into the work:

💙 South Elementary fourth grader Aaden’s idea to collect blankets for people experiencing homelessness sparked a schoolwide effort and showed just how powerful one small act can be!

A Crystal Lake boy has made it his personal mission to provide blankets to people who are homeless. He pitched his plan to his principal, and in the process got others at his school into giving.
