The Marine Science Station and the Citrus County School District are extremely grateful for the outstanding level of financial and educational content support from the Southwest Florida Water Management District for 2025-2026.
SWFWMD grant funding supports elementary and secondary school field experiences during the regular school year and summer enrichment during Coastal Camp Citrus!
Thank you for helping us get our students and teachers outdoors and learning about our aquatic and estuarine ecosystems!

We had a great Wednesday and Thursday last week with these 7th graders from Crystal River Middle School! It's hard to believe another school year is about to wind down. We're grateful for all the middle school moments like these from 2025-2026.

Back on April 27th, we hosted these great 7th grade Science students from Inverness Middle School! We are very fortunate to be able to take our Citrus County School District students on learning adventures like these!

Students on a recent snorkeling trip witnessed some territorial behavior between Striped Burrfish! It may have been a larger male chasing a smaller male away from his potential mate. Observing and studying animals and plants in their natural environment is one of the many benefits for students when they visit the Marine Science Station.

Recently, we hosted these students from SRMI/Renaissance Center. They conducted a wide variety of activities, including snorkeling and specimen collections. These students earned the privilege of participating in this field experience by meeting their academic and behavior goals throughout the year. For some of them, this was their first time experiencing the diversity of life in the ocean. Opportunities like this make a big impact on young people's lives.
