Even though it’s cooled down and the Gulf water temperatures are starting to drop, we had 0 manatees in the springs this morning.
Maybe tomorrow! 🤞
We’re keeping an eye out and can’t wait to welcome them back. Stay tuned and come enjoy the peaceful beauty of the springs in the meantime!

As the weather warms and the Gulf temperatures rise, it’s time for our gentle giants to head back out into the wild. 💙

Over the winter, we were lucky to host hundreds of manatees seeking the warm, constant waters of Three Sisters Springs— fed by the Floridan Aquifer that stays a steady 72°F year-round.

Now that the surrounding waters are warming, the manatees are leaving the springs to travel throughout the Gulf and nearby rivers to feed and explore.

We’ll miss seeing their whiskered faces and slow-motion swims through the crystal-clear water, but this is a natural and healthy part of their seasonal journey. 🌿

Safe travels, sweet manatees… and thank you for another unforgettable season.
We’ll see you next winter! 🐋💙

💙A Magical Time to Visit Three Sisters Springs! 💙

Right now, nearly 300 manatees are gathered inside the sanctuaries at Three Sisters Springs — making this one of the best opportunities of the season to witness these gentle giants in their natural habitat!

Crystal River/Kings Bay is a first-magnitude spring system that originates in Citrus County. First-magnitude springs discharge 64.6 million gallons per day or more. Kings Bay is a 600-acre bay at the headwaters of the Crystal River, which is a tidal river that flows approximately six miles from the northwest side of Kings Bay to where it keets the Gulf.

Visitors can:
🌿 Walk the boardwalk for incredible above-water views
🚋 Take the shuttle into the refuge
📸 Enjoy one of Florida’s most unique wildlife experiences
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Explore Crystal River’s beautiful spring system

Sanctuary areas are closed to protect resting manatees, but there are still amazing viewing opportunities from designated areas throughout the refuge.

It has definitely warmed up at Three Sisters Springs! ☀️
With these beautiful warmer temperatures, our gentle giants have headed back out into the Gulf to enjoy the buffet. When the weather warms up, the manatees don’t need the constant 72° spring water, so they spread out and go graze.
But don’t worry — this is completely normal!
We’re watching that cooler air moving in next week, and once that cold front drops those temperatures again, we expect our manatees to make their way back into the springs to stay warm.
