From the Desk of Police Chief Robert Thomas

In Memory of Officer Timothy Lee Webster
End of Watch: Saturday, August 13, 2005

Today, we honor the memory of Officer Timothy Lee Webster, a dedicated US Army veteran and a valued member of the Crystal Springs Police Department. Officer Webster was tragically killed in the line of duty during a traffic stop on Jackson Street. When the suspect fled, Officer Webster bravely pursued him on foot and confronted him on Kendall Lane. In the struggle, Officer Webster was fatally shot twenty years ago today. The suspect was apprehended the following day and later convicted of first-degree murder, receiving a life sentence without parole.
Though Officer Webster had served with our department for only two months, his courage, commitment, and selflessness left a lasting impact on all who knew him. He is survived by his wife, three children, brother, three sisters, and two nieces.
Today, let us remember Officer Webster and honor the sacrifices made by all law enforcement officers who step into danger to protect our communities. God bless you, Officer Timothy Webster. Your bravery will never be forgotten.

A Message from Chief Robert Thomas: Addressing Recent Crime in Crystal Springs

Dear Crystal Springs Residents,

The Crystal Springs Police Department is addressing a recent increase in criminal activity within our community. We have noted a concerning rise in the following incidents:

Auto Burglaries: Unauthorized entries into vehicles, resulting in stolen personal belongings.
Auto Thefts: A surge in vehicle thefts affecting our residents.
Property Theft: Items taken from residents yards and porches, compromising neighborhood safety.
Curfew Violations: An increase in minors (17 and under) violating the 10:00 PM curfew, which is designed to protect our youth.

Our Response

Our investigators have obtained numerous video recordings from members of the community, and we are actively pursuing several suspects in connection with these crimes. Recently arrests have been made. To further enhance safety, we are implementing the following measures:

Increased Patrols: Officers are conducting enhanced patrols across all neighborhoods to deter criminal activity.
Parental Accountability: Parents will be held responsible for curfew violations by minors. Citations may be issued, and charges of contributing to the delinquency of a minor may apply.

Capture of R**e Suspect

On December 18, 2024, at approximately 9:00 PM, police were flagged down by a female resident who reported she had just been s*xually assaulted and robbed by an unknown male in her vehicle. After a lengthy investigation and evidence review, Anthony Charles Wilson, age 47, of Copiah County was arrested at a local establishment on the morning of December 29th.

Anthony Wilson has been charged with R**e, two counts of Kidnapping, Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Possession of a Weapon by a Convicted Felon.

Anthony Wilson has an extensive record of arrests and convictions. He is currently on parole with the Mississippi Department of Corrections. Anthony Wilson is also out on bond for a violent crime that occurred earlier this year. Anthony Wilson is a registered s*x offender.

Currently, Anthony Wilson is being held at the Copiah County Jail without bond.

I would like to thank Copiah County Sheriff Byron Swilley and his deputies, the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, and especially the citizens of Crystal Springs for providing invaluable information that led to the apprehension of this dangerous criminal.
