Shortly after the 263 XHD project the K5 transfer case had some issues. The range shift for was worn and it would stay in gear. This NP 208 got a fresh set a bearings and seals, new chain and range shift fork. I had a spare NP 208 that needed the input gear changed to fit a TH400/4L80 transmissions. So it got freshened up as well. The spare will go back on the shelf for future use.

This what the inside of a transfer case when it’s run with out oil. None of the parts were salvageable. This is a 263 XHD case that fell victim to the pump rub. The oil pump rubs a hole in the side of the case then the oil comes out. Had to finds used 263 XHD then I rebuilt it replacing bearings seals and chain.

When installing a slip yoke eliminator it’s important to follow the instructions. Who ever installed this kit (before the current owner had it) left out the clip that holds the rear output bearing in place. This allowed the output shaft to “float” 1/4” and make all sorts problems. While NP231 was on the table I went through it and cleaned it all up and replaced all the seals and put a new chain in it.

This ole Jeep is coming along. It’s a 1998 Jeep Cherokee with 4.5 inches of lift on 35s. From what we can tell, this one has been sitting for several years. When I started on it the wheel had 1/2 a turn of slack in it. Discovered some other issue related to it sitting for so long. Got those resolved and about ready to give this one back to the owner.
