De Witt County Office of Emergency Management is actively monitoring the flooding occurring in Central Texas along the Guadalupe River.

At this time, Canyon Lake is expected to take on much of the downstream flow from the Guadalupe River, helping to reduce immediate impacts in our region.

We will continue to monitor the situation closely.

We are in ongoing meetings and coordination with the local, regional, and state emergency response agencies.

📢 Flood Monitoring System Update

Following yesterday’s post, the Green DeWitt Drainage District has received several questions regarding the new Flood Monitoring System at Main Channel and Broadway Street. We appreciate the community’s interest and would like to provide a quick clarification.

While the monitoring component and camera system are now installed and operational at Site #2, the project is still considered under construction.

Over the coming days, District personnel will be completing the installation of the flood switches and water level sensors that will activate the amber warning lights when predetermined water levels are reached. Once these final components are installed, tested, and calibrated, the warning system will be fully operational.

Until that time, the warning lights should not be relied upon as an indication of current flood conditions, as the activation system has not yet been commissioned.

We appreciate everyone’s patience as we complete the final phase of this project. Our goal is to ensure the system is thoroughly tested and functioning as designed before it is placed into full service.

🚨 Green DeWitt Drainage District | Flood Monitoring System Update 🚨

If you’ve driven by the Main Channel at Broadway Street recently, you’ve probably noticed a new solar-powered pole with flashing warning lights and wondered, “What is that?” We’re excited to share that this is Site #2 of the Green DeWitt Drainage District’s new Flood Monitoring System, an important step toward improving public safety throughout our community.

This system is designed to provide an early visual warning when water levels within the Main Channel reach predetermined thresholds that could indicate potential roadway flooding or hazardous conditions. When those thresholds are met, the amber warning lights will begin flashing, alerting motorists, pedestrians, and nearby residents to use caution and avoid driving through potentially dangerous floodwaters.

The system also includes a remote monitoring camera, allowing District personnel to only observe channel conditions in real time during heavy rainfall events. This gives us valuable information to monitor changing conditions, verify water levels, and improve our response during severe weather.

While this system is not intended to replace common sense or official emergency notifications, it serves as another layer of protection by providing an immediate, on-site visual alert where flooding has historically been a concern.

This initial construction phase of installation represents the beginning of a larger initiative by the Green DeWitt Drainage District to modernize flood monitoring and strengthen public safety across the District. As additional sites are completed, we’ll continue to keep the community informed of our progress.
